Do you need a license in England?

Hello,

I am a licensed Aesthetician and also a Full Specialist in the State of Florida. I am moving to England the end of this Summer and am curious if you are required to be licensed/certified there...? I haven't really been able to find much info out about it regarding licensing requirements. I've checked into some schools also and the only info they list is something about "Tier 2/3"?

Considering anyone in the UK can just claim to be a hairdresser with no qualifications I think you’ll probably be ok.

No, there’s no standard licensing requirements for Hair, Beauty and Nails in the UK.

There is an organisation that will provide a recognised ‘statement of comparability’ that you can use as evidence of your qualification level when applying for jobs.

Also, just a heads up...things such as disclaimers/waivers etc. are not accepted by our legal system so if a client presents with a contra-indication, you MUST NOT perform the service otherwise your insurance cover will be invalid and you could be personally sued. This is different to how the system works in the US.

I believe in some areas of London, a nail salon requires a treatment licence. For example:

But you do not need a specific Nail Technician qualification to practise, although some some suppliers will only supply product if you have done a training class with them.
