This has been driving me absolutely crazy.

I've had pink hair for the past year, and I intend to keep it pink, however the dye never takes to my bleached regrowth. I lighten my hair to around a level 10 or 11, wash out the bleach with a clarifying shampoo, let it dry, and then apply my dye (Joico Vero K-Pak) with a processing cap. I try to leave it on for as long as possible.

Some people have told me I have a compacted cuticle, some have said my body chemistry isn't right, I just don't know why dye won't ever take to my regrowth. It does to some degree, but it leaves a sort of orange-ish tinge. I get so jealous of the girls who have perfect, uniform pink hair. I'll take some pictures of my head later on.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers :)

You're not neutralising the oxidisation process of the bleach so your colour doesn't take properly because the bleach eats the colour molecules when they enter your cortex. You always need to anti oxy after bleach.

That makes sense, but how would I neutralize the bleach?

Using an anti oxi conditioner.

Uh, so like a Joico conditioner? Something that will bring the hairs pH back to 4.5?

Any product names would be helpful.

Wella post service, blondor seal and care, almost every brand has an anti oxy

Endling are you a hairdresser?

I'm going to hair school starting Jan. 5th.

Also, I talked with a hair dresser today with 27 years of experience and she had never heard of 'anti oxy' stuff. She said once you shampoo out bleach really well it stops oxidizing. She said my problem was my patchy bleach application and that I hadn't lifted it out enough for the colour to grab. So I'm sticking with her advice! Once my regrowth needs re-bleaching I'll get one of my classmates to do it for me, hopefully that helps.

Oh dear. Your 'experienced' hairdressing friend needs to get some re-education then.

In the meantime, I'll move this to consumer as you are an untrained hair messer at present.

I'm from the Beauty side but started out in hair 17 years ago. My memory is very sketchy and I never fully completed my qualification however I remember about anti oxi and bleach. From what I remember this is basic stuff and I'd be concerned that your hairdresser doesn't know about this. Please don't let a classmate colour your hair so early on in the course. Bite the bullet and go to a reputable salon who can do it properly for you.
Good luck for starting hair school though, hopefully in time you'll be able to carry out colour work

Hair Messer haha. If your friend has been hairdressing for 27 years and never heard of anti oxi, I'd be worried x
