Hi

I am totally new to nails, and I mean new!! So in the hope I may reform a fellow addict, my story goes:

I began biting my nails just as I started secondary school, and found it impossible to stop. I was totally unaware when I was doing it. A year ago, I had a family wedding, my daughter was going to be a flower girl, so it was a real big deal. I bought this fantastic outfit, but I looked down at my nails one day and said to my husband "I wish I had nice nails to go with my outfit, I'd love one of those french polish thingys". His solution to my problem was to set me a challange. Stop biting and he would treat me to a manicure. That was it. Now over a year on, I have never looked back. I love my nails!! Luckily for me, they are strong, grow a pretty decent length (I think it's my nail strengthner's doing).

Anyway, I have taken a mad fascination with Nail Art and would love to take my LOVE for this further, but cannot find any Nail Art courses in Aberdeen. Can anyone point me in the correct direction?

Sorry to drone on, but I am pretty proud of myself.

I totally love this sight, my poor family are now NailGeek widowers!!!!

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Cheers
Karen

Hiya and welcome to the site,

Maybe try some of your local beauty wholesalers. Mine is capital hair and beauty I dont know if there is one in Scotland, but they are allways doing courses for nail art, airbrushing etc etc hth ..

Hi Karen

I live in Pitlochry and there is a course at Perth College (starts Jan) and is 10 weeks on one weekday evening each week.
Maybe you could check round the colleges in Aberdeen and see what they have on offer - you'd have to be dedicated to go to Perth every week!
Welcome to the site.

Hi Sarah Lou

Thanks for the reply, Aberdeen has 2 salon service wholesalers, so I will find out if any of them supply courses. Your gallery is fabulous!! What brushes to you use?

Thanks again

Congrats to you for "kicking the habit"!
I find that when a woman stops biting their nails, they grow stronger and harder than anybody else's nails. I wonder why?
Hmmm.....I need to look into this. Does anybody else think so?

Let me know Diya!
I have a client whose "bitten" for yonks.....after a short spell of enhancements I have managed to educate her into having fortnightly manicures and.....well...her nails are soooo lovely! Long (ish) strong and oh so beautiful!
People actually ask her if they are her own!!!!

I will definetly let you know.
But this is soooo true. Their nails come in so strong and beautiful, (they almost always look fake). And people ask if it's their real nails!! And they'll say "They are real, but I used to bite them terribly a long time ago!"
How funny!?

This is true, people are always trying to pick at them to see if they are real, it's like "honest, they're mine". Some people have actually said, "gee, your nails were minging" (charming). What is really great, I have painted a pretty simple design on my nails (i don't like to use the phrase 'nail art', I don't feel quite qualified enough) and today, one of the girls at work were so taken with them she took a picture of them with a digital camera!!

Anyway, I think the secret is definately looking after them, I paint them at least twice a week, buff every fortnight, file at a 45 degree angle..................as you can see, I have researched this thoroughly, so sad! Also, I think it's a good idea to rotate you nail strengthener, it's like anti-biotics, you nails get use to it, so time for a change!! Probably nothing to do with it, but it keeps me happy.

Anyway, thanks again for the replies, hoping someone will come back with some suggestions for courses, Aberdeen has loads of Nail Technicians etc. just no Trainers!!

Cheers

Hi Karen,

Thankyou. I use various sorts of brushes, I get mine from art shops sooo much cheaper than getting them from the wholesalers. I mainly use double ended pens, striper one end dotting tool the other.

hi karen

you MUST check out Christie's web site. Her designs are simply stunning and there are some step by step tutorials on how to achieve some looks.
her web address is www.christiesnails.com - you'll love it

this is weird - I used to bite my nails really badly while I was at school (even now sometimes I cant resist a nibble). Now I have them really long and they are sooo thick and strong. People are always inspecting them, thinking they are false.

I am glad I am not the only one who gets that question. (Are those your nails?)
Can't help but to put them within view when people talk to me so they notice them now. I use to cut them down to match the one I just broke. I am over that now.
