Hi everyone

I have a facebook business page and a website and at the moment i only have the facility to take cash - i am a new business and am mobile, i just moved 25 miles away from my clients so have pretty much had to start again to keep fuel costs down.

Anyway, i cant justify the cost of a card machine at present and have been knocked by a cheque in the past.

Does anyone know how to get a payment system on facebook?? i have seen a shop on someone elses business page but dont know how to set it up?

Do any of you take cheques? i dont like to tell people i dont take them but i just cant afford to be working for free when one bounces. what do you think?

thank you Ruth, i'll have a look into this - the last card machine company to cold call me wanted 29.95 a month plus a charge per transaction!

There would be PayPal fees of 3.4% + 20p per transaction too... but hopefully it's cheaper than the cold callers... I never trust cold callers to be honest, as I suspect they have a reason why they need to cold call - in that it's the only way they can actually have any chance of making a sale (i.e. the competition is either cheaper, better, or both)...

PayPal! They do something called PayPal payments standard which is free!

You can take payments on the phone when you have access to a computer. I use it to take deposits before treatments and for some clients who prefer to pay on a card.

As for cheques, most people have cards so probably best not to accept cheques.

The PayPal thing can be integrated into your website or you can access it via your own PayPal account, payments go into PayPal then you can transfer to your own bank account within about three days...fees work out around 3% I think but worth a look!

thanks guys - i will def look into this paypal option - if i can put it on my website and people can pay via there then that would be great!

Hi, right I know absolutely nothing about it but i have heard there is a way u can get an app on your phone which let's u take card payments..... Would need an iPhone or similar tho x

I've just done a quick search and there is an app called isecure payments. They say u can swipe a card over your phone for payment and they charge less than paypal and other competitors....1.41% per swipe and 1.91% per non swipe. Like I said I'm not necessarily recommending it as I haven't used it, but worth looking into x

Just been told by an Internet geek I know ;-) that there is not one available in the UK yet......izettle.com is being trialled in Europe but not here yet, hopefully it will work and we can get it soon cos will be very handy for us mobile workers being able to take payments on our phones!

BotoxBoy, I have paypal. How would someone make a payment to me using a debit or credit card? I could get the app on my iphone.

You need to upgrade it to a business account... Few short steps but have a look online... Then you can start taking payments!

I had it embedded in the 'back end' of my website so when I'm out and about I can log in on iPad to process payments... Easy
