I've just booked a facial and skincare course for the 1st December and when I got my confirmation email it said its part home study and then 1 practical day. There's a video tutorial and a lot of paperwork about a&p and skincare etc an it says youve got to know the facial massage routine before the training day?! I will practising as much as I can on friends and family but my question is, can I offer this to the public before my training? I would of course tell them the situation that my course isn't until December but I want to perfect it and charge only for the product. Would I be allowed to do this? Xx

is your training with NextStep by any chance? Probably be better to just practice on family and friends until your training day. That's what i usually do, just so i know in only doing the best treatment i can on clients. X

Check with your insurance company whether you are insured to treat clients on a course that you haven't attended yet. I know when I was learning new techniques my insurance company said I could practice on clients outside of college but, regardless if they paid or not, they wouldn't insure me. They would only insure once I'd completed the course. I don't know if all insurers are the same.

Some insurance companies will not insure you at all on completion all of a course with only 1 day practical. What qualification do you get at the end? I personally feel 1 day practical is no where near enough. How do you know your getting your skin analysis correct on real people if you have no tutor there to see and touch the skin with you?

I have looked everywhere I can think of and the only courses available are 1 day courses. The only other option is to go to college for 2-3 years which I really don't want to do! I'm a fully qualified nail technician and qualified in spray tans and already have a business so I don't want to go to college full time. I can't find anything longer than 1 day courses x

You could look into NVQ level 2 or NC Beauty Care at college. These are entry level and leave you with all the basics including facial treatments. The benefits from this is that you are much more knowledgeable when it comes to anatomy and physiology background theory for all the treatments that you do which only benefits yourself, your clients and your business. You are able to then give a really good quality treatment when it comes to targeting specific client skin types and concerns which is mostly the reason people want a Facial as well as the relaxation aspect. I know you said you would rather not do that but those courses are classed as a 1 Year course. It only work out about 9 months and most full time is only 2 and 1/2 to 3 days a week over that period. It would definitely make you much more confident and knowledgeable with what your doing and has the bonus of also allowing you to add more services to your business at the same time. I. E waxing which I find is one of my most lucrative services. X

I did a facials short course( vtct level 2) with Isis in Kingston- upon -thames and I cant recommend them highly enough. I think it's was a 2 day course with a practical assessment after you have done our course study and portfolio. I traveled from Wiltshire to do it and it was one of t best short courses I've ever done.

I can recommend Isis Beauty Academy. The facials course is 3 days plus one assessment day. They are not far from Kingston-upon-Thames in Walton-on-Thames. The facilities and tutors at Isis are excellent. The training is is first rate and you gain qualifications and not just a certificate of attendance.
