hi just a quick question i'm 22 and have applied for a hairdressing college course in my area and have been accepted. i did this as i think i'm abit to old to get funding on an apprenticeship or something like that lol. i just wondered if anyone had found it difficult to find employment in a hairdressers after finishing there course at college as i've read a few things online that some employers don't like people who have just come out of college as they haven't had the same experience as an apprentice would have had in a salon.

You are correct. However at 22 there are limited options to train. Very few salons will be able to afford the cost of a 22 year old apprentice.

Best solution to the issue is to volunteer for work experience during your course. Hard going working for free, but it is the all important salon experience which is important.

Colleges are very out of step with salons in regards standards and performance, and a college course would not prepare you for the realities of working as a hairdresser, although some are better than others.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your course. x
