Hey,
I'm Matty and I'm 19 year old from South Yorkshire, I am Nvq level 2 qualified in beauty and in September doing my level 3 electrical on a monday/tuesday(Which I am really excited to do)

I am also looking into doing other courses I.e acrylics, threading etc. I really enjoy doing makeup and facials.
Someone told me that I wouldnt get employed being a male because no one would want their waxing done by a boy:S Which is fair enough but I'm gay and really girly so dont see the problem lol.

Anyway at the moment I havent got a job and really need one to pay for other trainning etc + I feel I should be in a salon so I dont forget what I have learnt and build confidence/experience.

So what would my options be? Would I be able to get a job in a salon or should I just wait until next year when I have level 3. Also does anyone know a place I can search online for beauty jobs? I've tried the job centre website but all ads are asking for experince plus level 3 :/ or Is it better to just call into all the salons in my area. I guess I could do mobile but I carnt drive and never really fancied going to peoples house.

It so depressing not having a job and feeling like your forgeting everything you have learnt and not knowing were is best to look and it doesnt help that I'm impatient and carnt wait to work in a salon

Also I dont no if this is the right place to post this,so sorry if its in the wrong place.

Its a difficult time for everyone in the beauty industry when they first leave as of course everyone wants someone with experience. Also yes most salons do like you to have level 3.
I think it is a fair assumption that you are not going to be taken on in some places because you are male.An employer will know her clients and whether you will benefit the company.

What is great for you is that its such a good time to be a male in the beauty world as there are more and more male therapists being employed and working on their own and male waxing grooming etc is becoming as important for men as well as women.

A few years back i think we had one man Axiom,Andy Rouillard who is an extremely successful male waxer/trainer and he trains for Perron Rigot as well as at his salon. Now on the boards we have many more male therapists.

Now we have Martin Duffy,Fozzyo,Matthew Taylor and many more, this is not including the many male nail techs.

Many woman do not mind being treated by a male therapist. So don't get disheartened there is work out there for you youve just got to stick at looking and find it and get driving at some point as that will open many more doors to you.

Thanks for replying:)
I'm going to just keep looking, really carnt wait to get back to college to do my level 3!
I am currently learning to drive so hopefully betime I finish my level 3 I wil be driving.
