Fluff problem

I feel like I'm being really stupid, but how do people do nails without fluff getting on to the nails?
I'm forever picking out tiny bits of cotton wool whilst I'm painting.
I moved away from the classic round cotton pads and bought more expensive embossed ones but to be honest I'm still getting the same problem, especially after using scrub fresh. I'm now thinking of buying gauze but thought I'd ask on here first. Thanks

Also, ditch towels on your desk top! best decision I ever made! fluff was ruining my life with gel polish!
