Hi can someone help me as I've been doing foils for years with no problem so unsure what I'm doing wrong...

I'm getting a slight 'line' where my foils have been placed, like a burn line that's a slightly different colour to the rest of the bleached hair. It's not bleeding out of the packet so unsure if it's the foil slipping but they're put in very tight.

Can someone help me please as I'm quite baffled ?

do you mean at the root area hun ? or further down ? as i know if you do your packets tight sometimes you can get a mark form where the foil is folded x

Yea at the root area ... Theyre not that rtight though x

sometimes if a clients hair is quite bounby the hair that is weaved out and should not be getting touched by colour, bounces up and can be slightly touched by the woven area you have applied colour to. . .in this case i find a skinny clip and when the hair i dont want to colour has been woven out, i clip it down tight to my previous foil untill i finish my current foil :) x

It's not the hair that shouldn't be weaves it's the hair that has been . I shall get a picture up and show. I don't apply too much or too near the root or too thick a section in my opinion so I am truly baffled. I have looked all on net to no avail even changed bleach which still did it :-(

This is a pic if you can see the faint line

I have had this happen before it's almost as if the colour hasn't developed fully, would be interesting to see if any one knows what this is and how it can be prevented?! X

ahhhh. . . i think its where the bleach creeps up ever so slightly in the foil nd because it is so near the opening of the foil it dries out and doesnt develop as fast as the hair sealed better farther down. .

What's best for me to do? Close the foil packet tighter?

Bleach swells, i think you've maybe gone a bit too far up with your colour and then let the foils slip. And there hasnt been enough colour to penetrate and fully develop.
If you notice it before its developed you can dip a metal ended tail comb into your colour and blend in the roots, escpecially on the parting to get closer to the root.

How would I prevent slippage ?

Maybe your colour consistency is wrong. Too much peroxide? Do you measure your colour when mixing? Iv started using digital scales, and i love them.

Colours are fine it's just bleach and I make that quite thick

hey this happens when u havent put enough bleach at the root area, so it does not penatrate properly! it sounds like ther is nothing wrong with your foiling method and this is not due to slipping! when foiling with bleach u need to make sure u have enough on the root but not loads as it can swell, but if your foils a secure this wont matter! hth x

Maybe I am being too self concious of bleeding that i do put it a bit thinner at root... Will check i apply more next time and let u know :) many thanks

I've applied more product and it's still happening :-( this is making me very insecure as I have done them plenty of times before! It seems to be along the foil fold? But I do t want to leave top much of a gap au case they're not close enough?

Think i read some where, that it can happen if foil is too tight and bleach fumes come out and scorch root area like a yellowy colour, also always wipe side ways with tail comb when securing not downwards as this can also do it.Thats just my thoughts, are you weaving fine sections,as if it's too chunky, foil pulls down a little.best foiling dvd i've seen is salon colour, off ebay it's a guy who's really talented and has made a full range of hairdressing dvd's .The lady doing the demo is a colour specialist and talkes through all the foiling problems. good luck, dont be put off, you'll get there.x:lol:

Why don't you try working with easy meache and only take your bleach up to the start of the sticky line,
Remember bleach swells,
You can use this like a safty line and you can apply it a bit thicker were you no you have that line for guidance.
Worked for me wen I was training, just thinking could help you get confident then go back to foils :)

What bleach are you using? This was happening to me but only since I started using a certain bleach I changed back to swartzkopf bleach the White powdered one and it's stopped. Xx

I would also say consistancy, or the type of bleach
