ladies i wonder if any of you have any information for me.

i am starting out, have trained in opi gelcolor, gelish, nsi acrylic and am now about to do the nail harmony acrylic course. i really want to get in to pedicures in a big way but the courses locally seem to be advertised as `manicure and we will cover pedicure if we have time`....so i have re thought and am considering a foot health practitioner course.

the trouble is my internet searches are bringing up training academies that a; i have never heard of, b;do not appear to be educational establishments (colleges etc). So my question is...have any of you done a course? do you have any recommendations? or any advice on what to avoid

any input gratefully received

As a practicing Foot Health Practitioner and Pedicurist I would strongly advise to use the SMAE Institue in Maidenhead. They have been a Chiropody training college since 1919. The rules about protected titles etc have changed in the last few years, now they train FHP's but have Podiatry alumni. I am not convinced that any of the other training companies have a similar respectable heritage. The chap in charge is a podiatrist and a keen advocate of the FHP qualification.

There is no better way to completely transform the health and appearance of the foot than combining a bit of 'hard core' foot treatment with some amazing pedicure work. For example, imagine how good a finish you can get on cracked and hard heels if you can remove the worst with a scalpel, then melt the rest off with a Callus Peel and a good file.

Elaine.

Have a look on my website for a little more detail about SMAE and what services it allows me to offer.

I am interested in this. How long is the training?

There are 3 main training establishments
SMAE (as mentioned by Elaine)
Stonebridge
College of Foot Health Practitioners

SMAE are the original providers and have a long history.

I qualified with Stonebridge - they offer the course with a 1 or 2 week practical at the end - and I would recommend the 2 week (which I did) as there is so much to learn and practice.

However I am now doing an advance foot health course (biomechanics) with the College of Foot Health Practitioners and have to sayI am well impressed.

I chose Stonebridge as the practical training in Bude is nearer to where I live. SMAE have their practical in Maidenhead, and the College of Foot Health Practitioners near Birmingham.

If you do your course with Stonebridge or the College of Foot Health Practitioners you can join the Alliance of Private Sector Practitioners who are excellent.

I have to say doing the foot health course last year is the hardest thing I have ever done, and is also the best thing I have ever done.

Thank you for that info x

Thank you so much for your help and information. I will definitely look into the education provider you recommend. I looked at stone bridge, also phoned them but I wasn't happy with the information and training they provide. Not entirely sure why...just wasn't comfortable.
Yes, you are quite right the combo of pedicure/gel polish and foot health work will take some beating. I already do a lot of foot work in my day job...just never use a blade lol. I am very lucky in that I can organise training time and support in our diabetic foot clinic (I nurse) but that will not help with insurance for practising privately....however, it would also enhance my patient care....can't see any negative s to it if I find the right course...I do have time to look around as I start my Masters in Sept. So it will be the new year before I am ready to go

Meant to say...love the name

Hi, just wondering how you got on with foot care? Did you do it in the end? Who did you go with? Interested X
