Hello nail geeks. Just popped over from hair for some advice off you lovely peeps.
So I am the grand old age of 30 and finally, through sheer will power I have managed to stop biting my nails for a full six weeks! Thing is since I have never had nails I now don't know what to do with them! The whole cuticle, nail files, shellac, acrylic thing is like a foreign language! Also they keep not so much breaking as they are really soft but peeling away :( making them short not to mention annoying when long strands of hair ger stuck in the sides. What so I do?!?! Someone said to get acrylics so I can get used to having length? Someone else said to have Shelec and a good old fashioned manicure. Help before I start nibbling them again!!

First of all. Woohoo and well done you!!

If you have peeling or flakey nails, Shellac may not be the best thing for you as i've seen many posts saying it is not always suitable for this type of nail, although it its still well worth a try if thats what you'd prefer. I use Gelish and have managed to help out some ex biters, one who has peely index fingers!

Enhancements are an option but make sure you go to a good quality nail tech so that they don't ruin all your hard work by thinning out your nail plates with incorrect prep.

My advice as a fellow biter? If you are constantly fiddling with and testing the free edge with your mouth now that they are a little longer, i would go with enhancements. If you have managed to keep away from them completely, a gel polish / shellac would be a great way of making them look great and feel smooth and well manicured.

Well done again on being nibble free xxx
