How far out do you travel for work?

Hi Sarah,

I stupidly used to travel upto 40 miles sometimes just for a blow dry but that was a long time ago now, these days for hairdressing about 20-25 miles but won't do that far for just 1 client, they need to fit in with other clients enroute or not at all. New clients I charge 40p per mile over 10 miles. Hair extensions I will go further, 40 miles is the furthest at present but again I charge her £25 for travelling, which suits her as she was getting a train to much further away before she found me.

Ive built up quite a good clientel in the past 6 months, all local... within 20minutes of home, but i'm thinking maybe I should be branching out a bit more...
25miles is quite far away, How did you reach out this far, just word of mouth?

Hi, have you got your adverts all over the internet because i found that as soon as i utilised all of the free advertising the internet has to offer i was getting call from all over the place!x

I have got a few ads... Mainly in my local town...
Mayb I should aim for other areas, but then I don't wana be called out for just kids cuts or trims, If its not going to be worth the time/travel...
But then it would be good for the quiet times..

Oh i know, i've now taken mens cuts of my price list for that reason(& also coz i've had quite a few creepy calls from men wanting their hair cutting, you know when you just get that gut feeling that something isnt quite right!) by the time you travel there and back the cost of the haircut hardly covers the petrol! You could maybe state on your price list that you only cut childrens/mens hair when they are accompanied by a paying female adult aswell that way you wont be travelling all over the place just to trim a kids fringe!!! lol xx
