Hi Alison

There are loads of threads about French Polishes and some excellent tips have been passed around before - do a seach on French+polish and you'll find loads of stuff :green:

I always use my airbrush there are lots of different ways to do it you will proberley find your own way of doing it once you have practiced a bit.

You can do a sort of v shape and join in the middle.

1) Begin at the left side and paint a line up to the centre of the free edge.

2) Then do the same on the right side

3) Then do a line straight across the top

It joins up quite nicley i usually do a line across the nail to tidy it up using a striper brush.

I too use Orly polish, In my opinion you will occasionally get a bit of white on the skin, this proves that you are ensuring all corners of the nail are covered. I feel that in a french mani situation, it is o.k to clean up afterwards. The explaination to client being, to ensure all of nail is covered, you will occasionally touch the skin.

I load brush (don't do too thin as will streak, not too thick as it won't dry) go from left to centre then right to centre. If nail is naturally very smiley take your lines down on an angle then one brush over the centre to make it more rounded.

i allways airbrush french but when i did it with enamel i allways placed my brush at on end of the free edge and instead of moving the brush i held the finger and rolled the finger under the brush.....worked for me

I do exactly the same as you Joanne, infact just got back from doing a french manicure. It always works for me to, it was the way we were taught at college.

i find it easier as you both say roll the finger under the brush, also make sure you have a good enamel i like creative polish stays thin and never gets cloggy and thick this avoids the patchy, blotchy look.

creative do some really nice french polishs to cover the whole nail my faves are negligee and beau....
