I have been a nail biter for years and no matter what I use nothing stops me from biting! :irked: I'm sick of my nails not looking pretty! I know once they have grown out I wont touch them lol it's just getting to that stage! I'm not qualified in nail enhancements but was thinking of getting gel nails , would this be a good way to grow my natural nail? Or any other suggestions would be welcome!!

Guess it would depend on wether or not you would still bite the enhancement product or not ? I have a clients who is having Brisa enhancements on while she grows out her natural nails, then she will be changing over to Shellac. So far, she has not bitten any of her enhancements and her nails are growing out nicely, so it can be done IF you use your will power.

Acrylics are nice and tough for nail biters to begin with, then change to gels and downgrade to a natural nail product. Always works a treat x

I would pick Bio Sculpture everytime... Have yourself some sculptures done & your nails will not suffer damage during the growth & you will have a nice set of nails that grow beneath the gels. What is more these nails arent too thick & clumpy. The gel soaks off within 15 minutes, dont chip or smudge & are good for upto 3 or more weeks.... Far better than Acrylics any day.
My daughters nail are now beautiful & long. She used to bite them several millimetres down into the nail plate & also used to scrape the remaining nail layers with her bottom teeth. There was barely anything for me to work with but we got there & her nails are now so strong..

Another benefit has been that her nail plate previously was so flat due to years of biting (12 years ) the nail plate having now grown has actually changed shape & she has a beautiful natural arch. The hypochinoum is still a little low but is steadily healing & is almost to the point of being in the correct place....

Acrylics force the nail plate to grow into an unnatural shape so they will likely break should you decide to leave off any inhancements....

I only wish I took a before picture of my daughters nails....

Hope you dont think Ive rattled on too much, but thought it would be interesting for you to see results through my eyes.... :)

i was a nail biter for 30 years, have had every kind of extension....acrylic,fibreglass,gel u name it, tried every horrible tasting thing yet i still managed to bite!! I am a nail tech myself (bow head in shame lol) so always wanted nice nails to show clients....

anyway i trained with bio sculpture last year after having a set of bio extensions and actually grew my own nails, now i just have overlays and actually have to file my nails down!!!!

try it.......

in my experience doing quite a few nail bitters...the success really depends on if they are ready to stop bitting. No matter what you do, if you still want to bite then you're not only bitting your nails but ripping at the product on your nail plate. But if you've got the mind then I'd say try the gel. I have used Bio before and it's a great product...I am currently using Brisa for most of my clients now. It's a buff off gel so it's harder than the bio wich is a soak off. It might be a bit of trial and error until you find the gel that will work best for your type of nail. Good luck! I hope you get the results you're looking for :)

Thanks everyone! I thin I'll start with bio sculpture and see how I get on with that! :D

Not true

unless applied by a rubbish technician

Any acrylics I apply (and any tech worth their salt) allow the nail to grow up 100% naturally. And they are great for a nail biter. Much more robust and un-nibbleable than anything else, I'd wager.

There's nothing in acrylic which is bad for the nails . . . what is bad for the nails is people picking them off and dragging layers of nail plate with them. Or an inexperienced tech overfiling on the natural nail BUT this could also happen with a bio-sculpture tech (other brands are available lol)

So whilst I am delighted that your daughter has been able to gain great nails I am NOT convinced that her route was the only way. . . . but am genuinely pleased for her x
