I've just completed a gel nails and polish course and wondered if you could recommend a good starter kit to purchase? Thanks in advance x

First of all I want to say congratulation for completion of this beautiful course. There are so many companies are available for this type of kits and I used the shellac starter kit, and this is a very good starter kit for me. In this kit I found all the things, which I need and you can try it if you are looking this and I am sure it will be helpful for you.

Have a search on here and online and then consider the brands you're interested in.
Please don't get drawn into previous posts and only go with authorised distributors.

Thanks for your feedback ladies.

I have had a look through the site here and at different reputable brands but they're so expensive and I still don't really know which one to pick as there is so much choice. It seems IBD and OPI and nail harmony is mentioned quite a bit. I will need a kit with everything in it and not all the kits provide that x

Unfortunately, it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' question. There are SO many brands and everyone will just tell you who they use. Have you worn any of the brands that you're thinking about before as a client? If not, That might be a good place to start?

I'd say the main brands are gelish, shellac and OPI. It's not particularly cheap to get started, but the difference in cost per service for a good, reputable brand vs a consumer brand is actually negligible.

I would say that what led me to my chosen brand was the ongoing support and training, as well as ease of application and removal.

Agree with Ciderella - only purchase through reputable and legal suppliers (in UK, CND is supplied through Sweet Squared or Ellisons as a sub distributor).

Have a look at magpie gel polish. It's competitively priced for someone just starting out in comparison to say gelish

Thanks everyone ☺

The best bit of advice regarding choosing a brand would be to try them yourself wear them for the recommended wear and see which comes off best wear wise & removal vs price and there you have the brand you like to use on clients. I've recently done this myself as I'm returning to the trade and I had to top up my knowledge for the uv polish side of things. Good luck
