I go to a nail bar in town to get my nails done there always fab and super strong I'm a hairdresser and my last set lasted 5weeks! in my first appointment they asked if I wanted gel or acrylic I said gel but they used a white powder that drys like acrylic no lamp needed n u just require one coat, I used to be a nail tec and still do a bit for family and friends but I'v never heard of this? For a while I thought they were bluffing me and it was actually acrylic but when another client came in asking for acrylic they used a different powder with the acrylic smell... Has anyone heard of this gel powder??

I am a bio sculpture tech and from what I have seen of this gel powder it is just acrylic but these nail shops know that people want gel so they tell you it's better for your nail etc charge more and it is just acrylic. To the untrained person they don't have a clue what's what they just trust that they've asked for gel so gel is what they get. I have had some many clients come to me for a soak off saying it was gel but when I start soaking off it is acrylic. Which is extremely annoying as gel comes off very easily unlike acrylic it takes so much longer. Gel has to be cured under a uv light that's what I tell people to look out for. I hope this helps x

Thanks I'm just a lil confused as to what they are using, it's the same process as acrylic but doesn't look or smell like it and they have told me in the past it's stronger than acrylic.

I had this exact same thing when I was at college! Charged £5 more for "gel", which I now am pretty certain was acrylic just in a different dish! This was all well before any of my training and I just believed what I was told!

No matter what they are using I love it, my nails are strong and fine, nothing worse that thick nails I just wish they were upfront about what they are using I'd like to no what I'm paying for, there more expensive than anywhere else!! Mite quiz them a bit more next time I'm in.

It's a product called AcryGel and is a hybrid (of sorts).

It's stronger than Gel but it's not strictly an Acrylic as it doesn't use a stinky monomer to cure it.

ALL acrylic and Gel nail products contains polymers made from Acrylate based substances. This is just another formula combining polymers to make a strong nail coating.

I think it's a bit silly telling clients it's 'just Acrylic' when it's similarity to Acrylic products is about the same as Gel is to Acrylic. i.e. they contain similar base chemicals.

Educate yourself people!

It can't be AcryGel as the poster said it didn't require a lamp, and AcryGel does need to be cured under a UV Lamp. It is a powder AND gel. The OP mentions no Gel being used.

Well to throw a coal to fire ...
Firstly why would you ever let anyone apply anything to your skin hair body gave without knowing exactly why is it, where it's manufactured etc!!
Maybe I am a nerd who knows but I ask before I even sit down.
I don't support made in china products and never will.
If therapist doesn't know : walk out !
