Hi, we use gelish and shellac in our salon . I had a mom & daughter in for removal (both done by me) , the mom got shellac (nails were all perfect she had to have them off for work) , the daughter got gelish & had only 5 nails left in total . The mom said she had same problem with gelish before , so prefers shellac ? Anyone had an issue with gelish not lasting / lifting completely from nails. I know my nail prep is fine , so I don't know could the polish not be suitable for certain nail types? Thanks

Reasons for product breakdown of Gelish:

-Lack of knowledge.
-Thin nails
-Active lifestyle
-Gelish is a low quality gel.

Maybe the nail isn’t prepped properly before the gel is applied

With all due respect, you don't know that your nail prep is fine, in fact, you have an example of why you might be missing something particular to Gelish. Why don't you post your prep and let these wise women review it and make suggestions?

The first two questions that come to mind from me are: Are you using a Gelish lamp to cure the Gelish? and because you also use Shellac in salon - are you buffing the natural nail first?

Gelish cures at a different wavelength to *most* other brands so with this brand inparticular, it's important to use the correct lamp. The fact that only five nails were left by her next appt suggests perhaps under curing - one reason for gel polish peeling completely off, rather than just chipping.
And Gelish prep requires a light buffing to remove shine only.

Thanks for helpful reply!
Yes, I use gelish with gelish lamp and shellac with shellac lamp.
For gelish I lightly buff the nail plate .
She had 2 nails gone on one hand and 3 on another . My clients mother (who had shellac) did say she had problem with gelish not lasting previously so similar situation , but shellac works great for me.
The client who got gelish it was her first time ever getting a 2 week polish. The reason I asked for advice if someone had similar situation , perhaps gelish doesn't suit certain nails, the client was too rough with hands , or the issue could be with my prep/ application ?

Thanks ? Why do you say gelish is low quality ? Just wondering , as we only want to use good products in salon

Thanks , this is a possibility also .
Can you advise . My procedure is , file , push back cuticles , nip any unwanted cuticle (we don't use cuticle remover) , buff nail lightly, clean with artificial gelish nail enamel remover, then squeak all nails with nail surface cleanse.
Application - ph bond - apply light layer of base coat with a gel brush - cure for 5 secs - apply 2/3 thin layers of colour - cure 30 secs- apply top it off- cure 30 secs
Thanks

Very true . Possibly I could be doing something in prep stage. I have writers it in another reply above

I see three things that concern me -
1. not using cuticle remover. Cuticle left on the nail almost guarantees lifting and peeling. Cuticle remover gets that invisible layer of cuticle off the nail.
2. using enamel remover in your prep. Polish remover breaks down polish, so any remaining on the nail or skin would break down the gel polish.
3. Are you using a Gelish lamp?

Also remember to buff the nail, this will take anyway any shine or oils on the nail so the nail can adhere properly
