Hi all, this is my first post.

I work in a small salon and until recently have always used the cheaper basic bleaches, techniques, wholesalers own brand etc.
Although these cheap bleaches need longer processing times and higher strength peroxide they never seem to result in dry or brittle hair.

A few months back we started using indola rapid blonde and shwartzkopf igora vario blonde.

Whilst i have found that the indola and igora bleaches give a cleaner, brighter blonde, they seem to be more drying and damaging than the cheap, basic bleaches.

Is this normal or have we just made a poor choice of product/brand?

Thanks

Hi there,

I have never used the brands you mention but I have used Goldwell & Wella dust free and have had no problems as long as properly used - mix as directed with the right peroxide lower the better (as I have learnt on SG).

I also use Goldwell Silk Lift in the salon on clients with delicate hair who want more lift than tint but their hair is not up to regular bleach - there are two powders - gentle and strong used with peroxide (3,6,9%) and a serum - we charge a little extra then regular bleach but clients with delicate hair seem to be prepared to pay a bit more and we get good results.

I hope that helps. x

Hiya, Thanks for your reply.
I have been reading lots on here over the last day or 2 about peroxide strengths. I had been taught to use 12% with bleach to lift dark hair, something i have done for ages with the cheap bleaches which always seemed fine :o
Anyways, after reading about the damage it can cause i won't be using bleach with 12% ever again.
I have noticed that the indola and igora bleaches lift really well with 3% and 6%, unlike the cheap cheap ones.

The main reason im looking for a good quality, reasonably priced (hopefully) bleach is that i am changing jobs and starting to focus more on mobile hairdressing. Therefore i have the choice of products, rather than what the salon buys.

Sorry, i have waffled a bit x

I wouldn't be without my blondme bleach, I even went to the other side of the city to get it because my usual wholesalers stopped selling it! I use it with 9% to get the best lift for nice bright and clean highlights, or with 6% or 3% when necessary. :)

I use the schwarzkopf Igora Vario white bleach and find it lifts really well with 6% and 9%

The vario blue bleach also contains wheat starch which helps to protect the hair a little.

I am yet to try the Schwarzkopf Blonde me bleach. This bleach is supposed to lift up to 9 levels.

:)

Bleach with 12% is way to strong. If you are trying to lift a dark colour out. the slower you do it and the lower the peroxide strength you use will mean your colour will be a clean colour and will not damage as much as 12% but don't tell your client you can get their hair to a bright blonde on the first time, if they want a nice colour and good condition hair they will follow your advice. I am trying tigi true light bleach at the minute and it's fab!! Prefer to wella bleach. Hope you find this useful

Tigi true light. It gives good results, is kind to the hair & It even smells nice.

i agree with Alex-Lydia the silk lift is a beautiful product to use. one of my clients has EXTREMELY sensitive skin, yet still insists on being bleached. The silk lift doesnt hurt her scalp or her hair.

I have recently changed bleaches too because of the same thing. I have found the vario to be drying. Im now a convert to Proclere freeze lights, the condition is lovely and excellent lift with the bonus of cool tones added into the bleach. It is slightly more expensive than the Schwartzkopf but my client have been happy to pay the price increase for cleaner healthier blonde hilights. :)

I have tried the freeze lights and was really impressed, I have also used wella blondor several times in the past 2 weeks with 6% and im really pleased with the results.

Thankyou all x x x
