Hi everyone. I have someone's hair to do, we use Koleston. She has quite warm natural base 7 and it's got a lot of quite recent colour in already. It looks like lots of colours in there, gold, brown and bleach etc - basically highlights and tint and not in great condition. The overcolouring seems to have become almost a murky khaki colour I want to sharpen it up, she wants it more ashy but says it always goes warm as she has to wash it all the time (greasy hair) but does use quality shampoo etc so am not sure? What would you advise, I want to get it to a nice overall minky shade with some streaks.

Thanks so much for any ideas

I think she prob needs to get the condition of her hair sorted out. Colours are not going to come out as you want/look good the whole time her hair is in rubbish condition. It could just be that i think this as i am obsessed with making sure my clients hair is in tip top condition though

i agree if your lady's hair is in naff condition you wont get the affect you desire i dont think. x

yes I think you are right, the ends especially are very dry and will suck up the colour and go very dull so I think it probably would do more harm than good now that I think about it. How long do you think it will take to get ready for colour, and are there any conditioners or anything I can recommend that will help tone down the slight murky khaki tone? Thanks again! x

If its throwing off green maybe add a bit off mix tone in opposite off green on colour wheel are you using Kloeston Perfect or Colour touch on really porous hair I use K P on the root and colour wash the mid lenghts and ends as it packs it full off shine and with KP on the root you get the lift if needed and the coverage too dont know if this would help

Thanks yes using KP. Do you mean use something a bit red or goldy base tint to it, to add back some warmth? I was thinking maybe 7/75 or something to get it to a warm brown. She has lots of highlights but as the hair is so porous I know if I put anything ashy it will just suck it up and go so dull! Her hair is short though so it makes it less tricky to get ends and roots even I find.

I have 9/7 which I never use - do you have any good mixes for that? Was wondering what it looks like mixed with an ash like 7/1? Am aiming for a minky rich brown but not too warm... just enough to kill the khaki dullness...

The /17 range in kp is lovely for that minky tone.

Oh thanks! Would you suggest I just cover it all up with a tint, or do you think I should put new highlights in as well (with tint + 12% which hopefully will lift) and then tone if need be... I just don't know what is best. At the moment there is so much colour, and all the old bleach seems to be coming through. I am tempted to tell her to just have an all-over tint, but I want one that will hold. The aim is for a nice minky brown, not too dark. Any expert mixes out there, pls let me know! Thanks so much xx
