Today we had a first proper look being shown how to do a Graduate bob cut, so our Teacher had brought in a woman to show us how the cut was done, he made it look Sooooo easy but i think i sort of undertood what he was showing us.

When the class had finished i had written down what i had been shown in my little pad, but when i got home i must of dropped it walking outside Arggggh.

I just wondered if anyone had a diagram and easy guide to follow that they could send me, i feel at a lost now that i don't won't to forget what i had been shown.

Thankyou

i think the best thing to do, is remember your levels of elevation, they're really the key to remember each cut! Coz each basic cut is done differently with different colleges/companys, its the same for colour! HTHs xoxo

Hi

I was shown how to take a centre parting section from the top of the crown to the nape, then take a curve section across the occipital bone at the back of the head.

I was told to keep the hair wet while club cutting the hair.

Then take each section on all sides at a 90 degree angle drop down at 45 degree to cut.

Its still all very clear in my mind what i was shown, but i would like to see a diagram if possible.

My Teacher had also told us to get best results with this haircut you need to be very precise, make your sections and cutting lines very clean

Hope i've explained this correctly as i will be doing this next week. :)

Level 2 hairdressing books have good diagrams in. You should be able to get one from your college librarey. Hth. xx

Hi there

Thanks for the reply, i will see if i can get a copy of that book, i know my starter kit does not have any books in it and i'm planning on doing Level 2 anyway so getting a book will be handy.:)

Are they getting you to cut a graduated cut when you've only just started? - sounds a little early, I seem to remember learning how to wash, blowdry, put rollers in etc. etc. really getting a feel for hair and how it works and falls etc before starting with basic cuts and then moving on to more complicated cuts and I was a really fast learner. Best look for the book as someone else suggested or check out youtube ( although some of the vids on there are rubbish)
best of luck.

I love this thread ...
In my day it was pin curls, pin curls, pin curls ... oh, and finger waves .. LOL!!!
How times have changed, however, the slogging we did in those days makes sense of the whole thing - and was a good foundation for all of the skills you need as a darned good hairdresser ...

you still do that now...well i did in level one pincurls finger waves, brickwind directional wind etc for setting blow dries..and my level 1 was only 3 years ago...
I am presuming reesey is doing level 2 ????? if not and your just on level one we didnt go near cutting till after the christmas...once our level 1 assessments had been done. and if your first cut to learn is a graduated bob eek...best book is tony and guys classic cuts..they should have a copy in your college library had brilliant step by steps as did their video...i would watch at home at the same time as doing my head sheet..hth
got to get past the uniform layer i reckon before being shown a graduated bob..

Just checked, Reesy is doing an OCN beginners course in hairdressing - and is then going to work through the nvq levels???(according to past posts)
Methinks Reesy's friend/mum/sister/granny/cousin wants a graduated cut and is trying to get insider tips on how to do it.
I apologise if this is not true Reesy but as courses start in September and its still September it seems a little soon to be cutting!!:green:

Hi penners

Yes i'm doing a Beginners course in Hairdressing, according to what i had been told this course is quite advance in away that it will learn a student more things before getting to grips with Levels 1 and 2 NVQ's.

I've got to say i'm really enjoying what this beginners course as been learning me, and just after two weeks into the course we are now learning the foundations of Graduation cuts. :)

Are there anyone else doing this course, i would like to hear from them.

Thanks

Ive gone back to college, after been salon trained years ago, but want to do my level 3,before i open a salon.

im only part time,so yesterday was only my second day,and we also had a dem on short grad, and were asked to start booking models in.
we were also told that we will be colouring before crimbo, good for me,as i worked in salon as a stylist for 3 years, and have 10 years in industry, but it must be so overwhelming for some newbies!
the 1 im doing is a new qual started this year, called a VRQ its very intense, designed for mature students, who have already got some hairdressing experience, then you go onto nvq 2, it was designed because the nvq 2 now has to be tutor referral,as they were people signing up for level 2,who clearly needed to do 1 first,
hope this helps,
Kate x

p.s, to the lady who posted originally, theres no rush, you will(should) have more dems before youre expected to do any cutting, and you should of been given hand-outs? you should also have your work books with all the units of the course in,and your college should have a book you can use, before you can buy 1,Leo Palladinos book is great for level 2, If you are wanting to practice this cut on friends/fam, theres nothing wrong with that,as long as they know youre a complete novice, lol! if thats the case, have a word with your tutor first, see if you can book in a short dem, that way she/he will be there to guide you. Also you could ask a class mate if you can take notes from there notes?

Hi Kate, thanks for your experiance on hand

What we were shown was just a Demo from our Teacher, what i had forgot to mention was he will be learning us step by step the foundations of different cutting techniques on Doll heads before letting us cut on a real person. phew :)

My course will also show us how to colour hair, set perms and shampoo and we will be learning how to colour hair from a (Goodwell colour chart book.

Mine too, finger wave a whole head, half head set with pin curls at the nape to the crown, it set me up with all the basics.

:)
