hi everyone! im having issues with my hair! if i wash it in the morning by late afternoon its greasey its really horrible! ive been using a loreal shampoo for long, prone to greasey hair which has helped but im struggling to find it now can anyone tell me what else i can use/do to help it?! thanks x

Are you using a salon quality shampoo or one from the supermarket?

The supermarket/chemist shampoos contain much higher proportions of cheaper sulphate based detergents which will strip the natural oils from your scalp. These oils are important in maintaining a healthy scalp.
Your scalp will then try to protect itself by producing more sebum oil and then you're stuck in the cycle of shampoo stripping your hair and your scalp over producing oils to compensate. You have to break the cycle if you want to resolve this.

Firstly, ditch the cheap shampoo and purchase a decent quality one from your salon. You won't need to use very much so it will last much longer than 1 bottle of the cheaper stuff. Thoroughly wet your hair before applying a tiny blob of shampoo into the palm of your hands and rubbing them together lightly before applying to your head. Don't rub your hair too vigorously as this will stimulate your scalp into producing oil.

You will need to allow time for your skin to recover so you must resist washing your hair more than twice a week and eventually, it will rebalance itself and reduce the amount of oil it produces. Wear your hair up or in a scarf if you need to. Allow at least a month for it to rebalance itself.

thankyou yes it is a cheap one from boots. i went to the hairdressers yesterday to have my hair cut and i mentioned it to her she gave me a tester packet of schwazkopf(sorry if thats spelt wrong!) for coloured hair (i have highlights). i think that is what she used on my hair but by 5:00 it was greasy again. that put me off trying it. will that be ok or should i get a different one? hope all that made sense! x

That should be okay like the pp said it takes time! How big is the tester? Is it a sachet? Or a little bottle?
I would also purchase a dry shampoo or talc (this is a life saver for me) spray a bit and then put it in an up do. It's a plus for me as it disguises my roots a little x

Loreals pure resource shampoo is lovely for oily hair. Got it for my nephew who is going through puberty so suffering with his hair. It has a lovely lavender scent too! You need to get it from a salon tho.

Jodie, this may sound contradictory, but is your hair dry due to highlights?

Hair with no moisture will cause the sebaceous glands in the scalp to work overtime trying to get the natural oils back in your hair. The more you wash it, the more the natural oils will strip away, causing your hair to go greasy.

Are you putting conditioner on your scalp?
