hey guys, a client i have, has been dying her hair for years from a home dye like clairol i think and its a shade 5, she has all over grey hair, she wants to go to a lighter shade, now will the boots colourb4 work on her hair to take it back to her grey hair then she can dye it a lighter shade?
thankyou!

ahem. So are you her hairdresser? Are you asking which Boots tint she should use on her hair, or are you using it on her hair for her. Either way, what a shame because if you are a professional shouldn't you be either buying or putting professional products on her hair?

I have a couple of clients that ask me about home colours and I just politely say " I'm sorry I can't advise you as I only know about professional products and nothing about the products sold in Boots". They, more often than not, end up having me colour their hair with the right products. A good product for that type of client is Wella Colourtouch in my experience. I use it on a couple of clients that are 50% grey with acceptable coverage, especially if you shampoo and dry before applying and use 4% instead of the 1.9% developer. Beautiful results can be achieved with mixing too, which you can't do with the boxed colours I don't think. Go on give it a go she will be so pleased with the resulting colour and it is so simple to apply and it imparts such a lovely shine too.

Sorry not the answer you were looking for I am sure. But add to that the choice and range of colours purchased from the professional wholesale outlets far and away out perform the boxed ones in the Chemists.

Also, any trained professional knows colored hair cannot just be restored to 'grey' as it has been permanently altered.....The proceedure you are describing is a complete correction, and no one would reccomend anything other than seeking a local professional colorist to help you. Please.

If your client only wants to go 1 or 2 shades lighter, you could wait for the mid lengths and ends to fade, or if needed you could put a very weak bleach bath on just to fade it up a bit more. You can then apply your professional new colour to her roots first for about 20 minutes, then apply to the mid length and ends for approx 20 mins. Obviously check the condition of her hair before hand, as she may have applied her home dye constantly as "Tint on Tint" for many years resulting in very porous hair.

The colour b4 removers from boots are rubbish. There are pro products available for colour removal if the condition of the hair permits. Affinage eraser and. L'oreal effasor are 2. Presumably because she's used boxes for years her hair might be too damaged for a bleach bath?? As you probably know, you can't lift tint with tint so maybe if the hairs quite short you could use a semi on the regrowth until it's all out?
Hope this helps.

I really don't know my lovely as I'm only trained in professional colours, these shops only put within the legal amount of chemicals in, they don't last as long as the professional stuff
