Hi I am a qaulified beauty therapist and nail tech but have just applied to do a 2 year part time hairdressing course. Ive always loved doing hair and been interested in hairdressing, do any of you do both? I just wondered how you divide the two? i work from a home salon and mobile and will be a mature student. Thanks for any replies im just curious as to how or if doing both works:)

I'm fully qualified as both, but my primary job is hairdresser.

Back when I was at college (15/20 years ago) there was always the option to do hair, or beauty, or a combined hair and beauty course. I think the hair and beauty students had to do a bit more in college, a bit more at home, learn a bit faster, catch on a bit quicker and so on.

There don't seem to be many courses around like that now, where you can combine hair units with beauty units and create a course.

I qualified in both because I didn't have a preference and you'll probably find that people aged 35+ ish, are more likely to be qualified in both, though by no means all because obviously there was always call for one or the other.

I'm glad I qualified in both, and I think having the bigger range of skills to work with can be useful.

I trained in hairdressing and paid to do courses in beauty therapy on the side instead of staying on at college to do the whole lot. I much prefer hairdressing but it's quite handy filling any 15 minute gaps I have with eyebrow shapes and such.
