Hi there ladies and gents!
I'm not a hairdresser and I've never attempted to colour my hair as it means way too much to me! A few months ago I started the long process of going from my natural dark brown to a silvery grey, and so far I've achieved a beautiful grey with the top 3 inches of my head staying my natural colour.
I recently went to my normal hairdresser and requested she bleach the remaining dark bits gradually so I could match up the ends. She bleached it twice, first with 30 and a week later with 40 (no idea what these mean haha)
She also put a pure ash and pure grey mix toner on my ends and roots which has left me with yellowy green roots and forest green ends!
I look terrible and would really like help in what I should ask my hairdresser to do as I feel that sometimes she doesn't get what I'm saying. If not, if there are any hairdressers in the manchester/preston/blackburn area who would be happy to help me then please message me :) thanks guys, please send any advice my way on what I could tell her to do to get my hair back to it's silvery KellyO glory! X

..... dont go back to that hairdresser. Find someone who knows what theyre doing because she clearly doesnt

To go from a dark brown to a silver grey requires a reasonable amount of colour knowledge.
After all, it's not a bog standard 'blonde highlights' process.

If possible, try to go on personal recommendation.

Silver/grey is a hard tone to match/get due to the fact that there really is no such thing as "grey hair". Hair appears grey due to the hair going white & being viewed among the remaining natural hair color that takes on a more ash/flat/cool color next to the white hairs resulting in seemingly "grey hair"

Bleach even on "grey/white" hair yields yellow/gold undertones. Colored hair needs to be stripped right up to a light enough base for a lightest ash blond-platinum toner to work. Some color lines have titanium/grey colors we can use on lightened hair for this grey effect but will usually blond up in time needing re-toning.

Shop 4 a new stylist. I know here in Canada, those of us experienced, offer free consultations where you get the stylists input & where you should ask them questions & query concerns. You should also be quoted a general price range as this request is a color correction service & may cost more the first & possibly second times due to the amount of stripping needed to achieve the light undertone levels needed for this request. A strand test should be offered for this service where we apply our methods to a 1/2-3/4" wide section of the hair to get results b4 doing the whole head of hair to ensure the outcome.

These grey colors are a special formula that can not be achieved with a basic ash color line so ask ask ask lots of questions of your future colorist! Do some research on pro lines color swatches for yourself & find a shop that uses these!
