My client had roots natural base 4 and midlengths and ends are a 5 (previously coloured) she wants to be an allover chocolate brown L6 but doesnt want any bleach on her hair. I explained i didnt think that was possible but she insists another hairdresser did it before! I talked her into getting a very weak bleach bath on midlengths and ends (i mixed bleach powder with water, conditioner and a tiny bit of 10 vol) it hardly worked, just give a slight red tone. I explained that putting a 6 on wouldnt work so we decided on colour 5.86 (mood) with 20vol, I applied all over. When all dried it doesnt look much different to when she came in, the roots still look a level 4.
What can I do next? Im expecting her to come back in salon, she didnt seem happy!

I’m confused and wondering why you applied a bleach bath on the mids and ends if it was already a 5 but left the roots?
Level 6 is quite light with an orange undertone so I would be looking at level 4 or 5 for chocolate brown.
Sorry, I don’t know Mood colours so can’t recommend a formula for that line.

I applied bleach bath to midlengths and ends as they were a 5 and we were wanting a 6. I left the roots as that was her natural hair with no other colour on so I thought that would lift without the bleach bath.

This is how it went, nice colour but darker at the root which she didnt want

Root still looks a l4

you told the client what you needed to do to get them where they want to be, they didn’t let you insisting you did things like their ‘old hairdresser’ did, so you did the next best thing which you knew wouldn’t get the job done, as far as I’m concerned, you did your job. My opinion of those situations, there is a reason why the other stylist is the ‘old’ hairdresser. In future for clients like her, let her know that a ‘decolorising’ treatment or a blue/violet/white lightening treatment is neccecery. I also don’t think she’s telling you the whole truth in regards to her previous colour

Thank you! I think I did my best, I havent heard from her so she may of accepted that I could do no more without using bleach

Have a look at the guy tang lightener, big9 lifts up to 9 levels in one go, it’s white so doesn’t looks like traditional ‘bleach’ and it smells like lavender(providing you mix with the guy tang developers). It could pass as highlift if you were not the one to mix it, but it lifts insanely

Schwarzkopf have a high powered brown range.. have to double check wether they could be applied to scalp though for the natural root. If not could you not use an ash base 6 with 9% on roots? As for the coloured ends sometimes you can lift colour with highlift (actually sometimes level 10 can lift more than the high lifts) also Schwarzkopf do fashion lights designed for dark virgin hair (but again have been known to lift already coloured hair). I don’t know mood colours at all. Obviously you would strand test before doing these on her hair. Other than that she’s going to have to come to terms with having bleach [emoji51] xx
