Hi :)

I got weaves put in my hair at Leeds market last week. For a start, I found them pretty rude, I was sat there over an hour having 5 strips put in, and the woman doing my hair never said one word to me!

The braids were done very tight, which I thought would mean they'd last longer. They've lasted less than a week. My partner is currently taking them out for me as we speak! They have been pulling on my head and subsequently resulted in me having scabs on my scalp at each end of the braids. Also a few of them had come unravelled anyway!

So dissapointed that they only just lasted a week!

Can anyone shine any light on me if the scabs are normal to have with weaves? If they are only supposed to last a week? And if the micro beading system with weaves is any better?

I'm thinking about just getting them put on clips to save this hassle and money if there is no way of getting them put in without them pulling on my head and making it scab over, and making them last longer than a week??

Thanks :)

They're out now.. painful to comb my hair and very scabby :( Going to have dandruff for the next week or so by the looks of things! My usually very healthy scalp is ruined for the time being :(

Didn't want to read and run, just wanted to say sorry to hear you're having troubles!

Hopefully a hair geek will be along to advise you soon.

Ouch! She must of been really stupid to pull the braids that tight! Did she put any extension hair in with the braid? or just braid your natural hair?

I would get some E45 cream for your scalp and apply it at night and sleep in it, and then wash it in the morning, do this until the scabs go, becuase sometimes the hair can be pulled from the root and it will no longer grow. Its called traction alopecia. Wiki it :) The clip in extensions are good, but they can become dry, if not of good quality. If you want you could glue the extensions in. This a cheaper option and there are lots of videos on youtube how to apply, where to get the hair, and what glue you need, and also removal method.

The other option is bonded hair extensions but these cant be costly, but they do look natural, but they will need re-bonding every 4-6 weeks as your hair grows out.

But please take my advice, E45 your scalp, dont wear it in a pont tail or anything tight, leave it down if you can. Need anymore advice then PM me :D

Thank you, I think she braided in some of the wool (?) that she used to sew with.

The hair is the LA trend ones.

What is the difference between glue in and clip in doing it myself, in regards to the dryness of the hair?

I will have to wait until the weekend to get some E45 :( I gave my hair a real good wash this morning with lots of conditioner. How do I put the E45 in? Just like I would shampoo?

Wool? Never heard of this method so I can’t comment on it, but I was trained to add the extension hair in with the braid so the braid is as tight as it would be if pulled really hard on the scalp, but with the extra hair it doesn’t need to be as tight on the scalp because the other hair gives it that extra strength....if that all makes sense haha.

Glue-in and Clip-in are all the same hair, one with clips, one without. You will need to treat them once a week, shampoo them, condition them, and leave them to air dry and straighten them once a week with a heat defence spray, it’s still hair and if you don’t look after it it will become ratty and dry :)

The E45. Shampoo the hair as normal, and condition the hair. Then either dry or wet hair (whichever one you like) apply the E45 to the areas that feel scabby and dry. This should help the healing process and stop any further itching/dryness.

hi hon if your skin is broken ie scabs and sores then go to your gp. as said previously this may be a case of traction alopecia however i hope it isnt.

as an extensionist i would recommend you take time off from extensions of any sort until your scalp and hair are in a better state, and this may take a few months. i also would NOT glue in extensions yourself, when your hair is ready then please go and see a qualified extensionist who can help you with this as if it is done incorrectly you could cause no end of bother with your hair.
