Hello ,

I am wanting to know if anyone can help.

I am 35 and wanting to get into hairdressing but all i seem to find is things for 16-25. As a single mum i need to be financially stable in what i am doing but am aware that doing courses and training needs to be done. What would you reccommend , can anyone advise me on the situation?

I retrained in hairdressing in my early forties by doing a fast track hairdressing course. Since then, I’ve completed numerous additional courses and gained lots of hands on experience and now work mostly from home.
It’s do-able but you have to be realistic.
A basic level 2 qualification is the absolute minimum requirement. After that, you will need to spend a good 2000+ hours of additional training (learning advanced techniques, colour correction etc. & practicing) before you’re likely to feel confident working alone. Hairdressing requires both technical know how and practical skills.

Start by googling hairdressing courses then ring all your local providers (private academies and colleges) that offer hairdressing courses and speak to someone in admissions to find out what’s available. You might have to travel to find a suitable course. Financially, it’s much easier to do this when you leave school as I’ve spent ££££ on my training courses although I know some councils offer help with funding.
