I am starting an 8 week Hairdresssing beginners course - can anyone tell me what will be involved and should I buy a starter kit just now?

I should probably also point out I am 35 and starting out new in hair!!!

This leads to Hairdressing Level 5 - Stage 1 which is 13 week course - can anyone help???

Thanks

Lynsey

Will the follow on course lead to a recognised qualification that you can get insured with?
Salon Gold is a popular insurance company so you could ring them and check for peace of mind.

I know there are quite a few private hairdressing academies out there as well as local colleges that offer short courses. However, the quality of teaching varies enormously as some are absolutely amazing and others utterly appalling so if you can speak to anyone who has completed their courses, it could save you hassle later.

I wouldn't spend much on tools just yet. Probably best to ask the college for advice as to what to bring with you.

If you get into it, you'll probably want to buy better quality tools but things like scissors are so personal that it's best waiting until you know what suits you before splashing out.

What I would recommend is buying a couple of training heads for practising on. You can keep one of them for hair up practice and cut the other one.

Hope you enjoy your courses!
