Hiya,

I'm 25 in March and I completed my Level 2 hairdressing in 2009. I took a year out, but badly want to get back into it.
I have no job at the moment so getting an apprentices wage just isn't enough.
My friend can get me a job working at Virgin Media, which is full time, so i'd have no time to do my Level 3 aswell. So I was thinkin of workin there for atleast 6 months, gettin some money behind me, then startin my Level 3. But then i'm gonna be nearly 27 when I finish it.
I know your Level 3 is important but say I got myself to a Level 3 standard with doing courses here and there with Toni&Guy, can that ever look as good as an official Level 3 qualification?

Like is it recognised by salons?

Thankyou,
Allan x

yes very much so, some salons wont look further than the front page of an application form if all it says level2, unfortunatly even though someone can have an excellent resumé and be utterly crap as opposed to someone with little qualification but excellent skill, the qualification means something. 27 is nothing, think of the people who start from scratch in there 40s etc

i dont think you ever to old. I ve just qualified at 29! I think if your determind to do something dont let nothing stand in your way.

I used my days off from my full time job to go to college. now i have just started to advertise for clients to build my mobile business but have also been trying to get work experience in a salon 1 day a week to build my confidence and experience.

It is something I so dearly want to be good at, i will work hard to achieve.

Allan have you considered a training centre? Your level 3 can be done quite quickly depending on how competent you are! you might only need to be on apprentice wage for a couple of months. I have sent you a msg as I'm not sure if posting a training companies info is allowed on here or not and don't want to upset anyone.

Hope this helps

I'm about to finish my level 3 and I'm 29 so 27 definitely isn't too old.

If you don't have a job then surely any wage is better than nothing and doing an apprenticeship at a salon would be much better experience than a call centre. I don't know how education finance works in England but I got a maintenance bursary through my college. Find out about any financial help that's available before deciding that you can't afford to do a full-time course. If you're in a salon they may put you through your qualification so you wouldn't have to pay course fees.
