Hi everyone im looking to go to college to start my hairdressing training, but the 2 colleges local to me offer different qualifications and im not sure which one to go for.

Introduction to NCGA Hairdressing | Kilmarnock College
National Certificate Group Award (NCGA) Hairdressing | Kilmarnock College

these are both 1yr and the one below is scottish equivalant to nvq.

Ayr College - Are You Ready

any help in choosing which would give me a more recognised qualification would be much appreciated

Thank you

Nvq is being changed over to a different name, but most ate qualified with an nvq for us old schoolers. Xoxo

Yeah there are lots of different names now its quiet confusing! i did NPA Cosmetology Hairdressing for 6 months, NQ Hairdressing for 1 year, then SVQ Hairdressing Level 3 for a year all at James Watt College Greenock.

If i had been closer to Greenock i would have considered attending there.

Still really confused and now the first college have changed the course names again

think im just going to apply for both and just ask as many questions at interview and make a decision from there.

Ask who the awarding body is, I had mine with city and guilds which I think is the industry standard.
Heard somewhere yesterday they are changing it a bit to stop the award being an equivalent to x amount of GCSE's to stop schools teaching it as a replacement to actual GCSE's to keep their higher pass levels up.

Think this will help a lot, maybe take the dumb bimbo (and yes even guys get called that too) name away and reduce the absolutley horrendous stylists out there who should only be allowed to hold safety scissors when being supervised.

If I'm wrong on the city and guilds thing please let me know. Xoxo
