What application method should I use to lighten hair with a permanent dye that has been previously coloured with a semi permanent home dye ??? I'm abit unsure....

Lighten hair with a permanant "dye" over an old "dye"

Hmm...

What are your thoughts on how this would work? If you can explain how you think it will go I'll be happy to advise further :)

Thanks.....
My sister has coloured her hair quite sometime ago with a home kit by loreal(castings)...... Their doesn't seam to be a root regrowth visible on the hair & I think she had used it more to cover grays than change her natural colour..... When I've looked at her hair it appears to have faded out rather than grown out.....(she's now a base 4 medium brown & would like me to lighten her hair up to 7 medium blonde)(the tones still undecided at the moment) I'm unsure how the semi permanent hair colour used before would effect this process??? & also with her having very long hair what would be the best method to apply the product (ie mid length to ends then roots ?)

Be grateful for some advice as still in training for hairdressing and not come across this problem before

Her has is in excellent condition and tbh you wouldn't evan think she had previously coloured her hair with a semi permanant product , another reason why I'm unsure about how to go about lifting the colour and what the final result would be

Why don't you take her into college/salon to use for an assessment?

If you're still training, you won't be covered to do colour correction at home. Lightening hair that's been box dyed is not usually straightforward.

I agree with cams97 and think you'd be better off doing this in college under supervision.

She doesn't live close to me and hasn't got the time to get into my college..... I'm quite confident and have lifted quite alot of colours and know how to correct problems if they happen....I'm just abit unsure what is the best way to go about this because of the casting product she has used before... (I'm also familiar with the casting product to an extent as I use it on my own hair & have done for 6/7years BUT I've never tried 2 lift my colour as I'm happy with it) I also understand I'm not coverd just yet to do this process at home and so is my sister but she still wants me to go ahead with it anyway....(I trust myself aswel not to damage her hair I'm just more concerned that I can't see a definite line on the hair where she has grown out the semi-permanant colour....(& do semi permanant products completely fade out over time ? I always refresh my colour)
Ideally she would like to achieve a 7.3 (medium golden blonde)

To me it looks like the product has completely faded out and that's why I wanted to know should I treat her hair as virgin hair OR take into consideration that they may still be casting product on the hair which is difficult to see.... It really is quite some time ago since she used this product last (6months plus)

Ok I'm not going to give out a step by step as your not insured for this but I will say, tint does not lift tint and treat the hair as though it is coloured

I'd treat as coloured hair also. You can lift time with tiny even if it's faded. Have fun though and be daring. That's what learning is all about and so long as your sister won't sue you. Good luck

Sorry I meant you can't lift tint with tint

Thanks & she won't haha
