Hi hair geeks, I just hopped over from the beauty forum to ask a question. I have been going to a fab hairdresser with my 14 year old daughter for about a year and a half now and have always been happy with what hes done. My daughter has naturally dark strawberry blonde hair but has been having a semi perm red colour put on for a while, the last time we went she wanted a slightly stronger red which he did no problem but its now growing out and i think he's put a permanent colour on, normally the colour gradually fades and so her roots aren't to noticable but this time she has a real definite regrowth, I am going to pop in and ask him whether its permanent but will be pee-ed off if hes done it with out checking with me first, how do you guys think I should handle this???? Also whats the best thing for her to do now, she wants to use a semi at home....what brand do you recommend?????
Would appreciate any comments.
thanks in advance tinax

If you Keep using a semi perm then they do sometimes build up which is why you are then left with a re-growth line. I wouldnt recommend using home products at all i would always go to the hair dressers for your colour if you are not colour trained. Just have a chat with your hair dresser about what exactly u want or talk to another hairdressers in the area if your not happy.

Hi
We get alot of children in the salon wanting colours put on their hair and to be honest i try and avoid it as long as i can really because whatever colour you use,be it semi, temp or foils, you will eventually get some kind of regrowth which in turn means more regular colouring.
However if a parent and child insists i will oblige but not untill i know ive explained in fine detail about the possible regrowth etc and get them to sign a disclaimer as the child is under 16.
Really the options are limited but i would go back and ask your hairdresser for some advice.xx

Most colour companies have a policy of not colouring under 16's hair (it's a EU thing that came in in November), and if that is the case a salon or individual is not covered by their insurance if they colour under 16's hair, disclaimers will mean nothing.

This also applies to box colours, if you read the info.

Im not sure i totally agree with a blanket ban on under 16s.
The issue we come across ALOT in our salon is 14,15 yr olds that have done a home job and its gone very wrong. If we dont help to put it right they then go on to colour over and over again at home which in my view is more dangerous as theyre loading their system with too much colour/ppd/ptd which can ultimatley cause a reaction.
We normally find a telling off from the parent after a consultation on the dangers of home colouring etc from us does the trick!
Ihave had some mums who have called me before a cut appointment before and asked me to talk their daughters out of home colouring as they will listen to us but not their mums!!:biggrin:

I agree with you completely, but if you are not covered by your insurance to colour under 16's would you take that risk? I would not. Ring your colour company and your insurance company to see if you are covered. I think their answers will make it an easy decision for you to make.

Thank you guys, I think I will pop in and see what he says, as I said he has always been great, and shes been having it red for about 8 month now so hopefully its just the build up of the colour, as far as her only being 14 it was either take her or risk her throwing a colour on there herself......!! We are in Spain so not sure what the law is here regards minors and hair colour,
