Hi there,

I hope someone out there can help me!

I am 18 and currently in a part time job as a promotional assistant, my dream is to have either a mobile business or even my own salon come 5-10 years time.

I would like to be able to work and learn at the same time, I have been looking at the ICS website where you can learn at home and the course they do is a nail technician, I'm wondering if anyone on here has been on an ICS course and tell me what its like? Also if you think its a good idea?

I am also thinking of taking a nail art course either after or during the nail technician course should I decide to take this course up!

Also I've been trying to research what qualifications what you actually need to be able to run a mobile business?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Hi, maybe look into particular wholesalers as well? I know Sallys does a 5 day nail course which qualifies you, it obviously wont give you much experience but could be a good starting point! maybe look at colleges as well? they often do part time (going in once or twice a week in the evening) which might work with your job!?

Thanks for your help!

I'll have a look on Sally's website!
The local colleges don't offer anything in the evenings for beauty and especially not nails which makes me want to take up the ICS but I don't know anyone who has done an ICS course, I want to know they're good so I don't waste my money!

Generally in the industry there are two types of training

1) National standard training - this is usually offered by colleges and colleges - it is usually generic (non brand specific) as the international standard expects that you 'should' be able to apply the knowledge to any product line... these courses usually offer a lot of anatomy and other unit standard based information, and have the greatest flexability in training times/options. The downside of this - because you are taught a generic procedure you often do not get given the skills to Master a specific brand of product. yet each brand has extremely specific proceedures for useage and application

2) Product training - this is where the manufacturer provides training that is specific, indepth and relates to every possible usage and technique of there brand product. This arms you with the most specific and extensive knowledge of how to produce perfect results with that given brand. Some of these product training courses are actually able to issue a national standard qualification as well - best of both worlds....

CND is a great example of this, there are a globally award winning company for their education and cutting edge science with their product
CND - Sweet Squared

I wish you the best of luck for the future

Thank you for your help!

I went on to the CND website and their courses are way out of my price range  might have to put my plans on hold :(
