Hi all,

I am a beauty professional so didn't know if I should post here or in teh actual hair geek forum...

I am wanting some advice on my hair. I was a red head for a few years (home dye) but since being pregnant the hair colour has come out fairly quick...i am 33 weeks gone and I am wondering if it would be safe (if I go to a salon) to get the ends of my hair treated to remove the red and get the salon to try and colour my hair the same as my roots bringing it back to its natural colour.

My natural colour is showing about 4inches at the root, and strangely it looks lovely. Its a light brown and has blonde going through it, dunno if its cuz of the pregnancy (cuz it certainly hasn't been the weather up here!)

I don't know how removing the reddy/auburny colour would work out since the colour has come out really quick (and it was a permanent dye i used last time) but I don't know if its safe while I am pregnant.

Can anybody advise? it'd be most appreciated.

Hi there!

Been hairdressing for 17 years now so have had alot of pregnant clients in that space of time.
In our salon the rules/regulations state that upto 12 weeks foils are advised to help with root coverage but after that its fine to colour on the scalp after patch testing comes back clear.
The main reason salons are a little dubious in the first trimester is normally due to the hormone changes in the body as this can cause sensitivity/reactions to scalp colour and also i always say that all the way through a pregnancy hair can sometimes be a little unpredictable and the colour may not take as well or not be the colour expected.

Having said all of that, ive never had any pregnant clients reacting to colour or had any adverse colour changes.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for that. I think I'll go to my local salons and ask and research prices etc tomorrow if I can. Just wasn't sure if I'd be wasting my time so thought I'd ask!

I am the owner of 3 rather hectic kids and if i didnt work in a salon id never find the time to get mine done at a salon and get the chance to relax for a couple of hours!
With just a few weeks to go i reckon you should book yourself in somewhere really nice, take some new mags with you and totally enjoy it.
Any women carrying around another small human for 9 months should be treated and relaxed as much as possible because they bloody deserve it in my opinion!!

Is this small person your first?

Yup, first bump :) due August 30th. Don't know what we are having so it's a surprise that I'm eagerly awaiting.

I've had a pretty straightforward pregnancy as well. Sickness stopped at 3weeks and I never actually threw up...felt great after that! I'm slightly anaemic the now and I was getting pelvic girdle pain for a bit but that stopped when I stopped work so I think I've been quite fortunate. But I've not paid for a treatment or a hairdo since being pregnant.

I was trying to save money for baby obv so I was doing my own beauty treats, my own nails, my own tan (which most folk would think is ok cuz I'm qualified but I like getting it done by someone else!) but now I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I'm like...man I'd love a pedicure and to get my hair done. And why shouldnt i? Lol, i'm baking a baby!!! It's tiring work lol.

Oh and I know the smooth thick hair wont last after baby comes (from what I've read anyway) but this is the thickest my hair has been since coming off a prescription two years ago so I'm enjoying it and want it to look nice :D

Hey you should treat yourself to a pedi and a new hair colour as a kind of thank you from the small human your growing!

You will feel and look fab ready for when you have your shim!(We called bump no 2 shim as we didnt know if it was a she or a him!!)

We just call baby "bump" but daddy is starting to go with "he" and "him". Wishful thinking maybe? lol
