Right. I cant believe I am asking this after all my years but am I going mad. Tint doesnt lift Tint....Correct???

I am having alot of clients who went darker for winter now coming in and wanting to go lighter for Spring, same ole same ole and love it, it is what keeps us in business...so is it only bleach to start with?

Can I put a hi lift tint on?

Had a 5 base yesterday to work from (usually anything from 4 to 6 at the moment) and did some fine bleach foils all over to make it appear lighter using 2 different peroxide levels to create some natural hones....could I use hi lift tint or wasting product?

Lay in bed last night and thought "grrrr mental block"!!

Thanks everyone xx

I was told many moons ago that hi lift (wella) could lift half a shade. Well I tried it on my brother who dyed his hair black and I had no bleach and it didn't shift. I do occasionally put a teeeeeny spot of bleach in with my hi lift to give it that extra lift but this is usually on someone with a wee bit of tint left in the ends or someone with very dark virgin hair. Some other geeks will be able to help but that's my opinion and experience!!

Sorry, but tint will not lift tint.
If the mid lengths and ends have faded very much, then it can be ok to go a few shades lighter, do your roots first then water down the tint and refresh the mid lengths and ends for say the last 10 mins. Or apply a demi on the mid lengths and ends.

But if in doubt, well yes like you say, you could put foil highlights through to lighten up the general look.
:)

At those bases, no high lift won't do anything. However I do find a base 7 and above tint can be lifted with 12/0, but only about a shade.

Agree with the above! Occaisionally you can cut through tint level 7 or above, but generally no.

thanks guys i thought i as going mad
altho i am now reading about the salon that uses supermarket stuff instead of professional, does this really happen??? makes a mockery of doing the skin tests which i have never ever not done...anyway sorry. ranting.
