Hi Geeks, am new to this forum and just qualified with my level 2 this summer,
I've been fairly confident with colour at college (now looking for full time work) but in the mean time i would appreciate some help from you experienced geeks!

Since qualifying been asked more & more to cut & hi-light etc which I'm happy to do for friends , we used Koleston Wella at college and the tutors always seemed to steer us in direction of 12/0 & 12/1 for highlifts,

My friend is about a base 6/7 and wants clean but not to white highlights on her
roots, she already has highlights through (some golden blonde and toffee colours) Would you go for a 12.1 for this or maybe a 12.89? (lookin on wella chart looks to have more violet in it to counteract any orangey tones)

which ones do you experienced geeks use a lot in this situation? she also wants some lo-lights so thought maybe a 6.75? Would you also go straight through from roots to ends and go over previous colour when applying? just
thinking of a more even colour throughout?

Help most appreciated.

Hello :) going from a base 6/7 to a 12 using special blonde I think it will struggle to lift and leave your client with very warm hi lights, not the clean blonde she is looking for, I would personally use bleach and pastel or bleach and 6% (do some test cuttings) and see how that lifts, depending on how well, I would then wash off and apply a toner, maybe 9\1 colour touch as this gives a nice blonde but not too bright, or 10\1 koleston perfect mixed with pastel just to counteract any gold and give her a clean blonde. Hope this helps :) x

hi, thanks for the advice, she says her hairdresser def uses tint as she's seen
her squeezing two tubes when prepping her colour. I did suggest bleach with
3% but she doesn't want bleach.

Don't the highlift 12's lift 4-5 levels? she is a dark blonde base so thought that
would be ok? thanks again.

Yeah the special blonde will lift up to 4 to 5 shades with 12% it just depends how warm her hair is naturally as to how much warmth it will throw up when lifting, so if her hair is a 6/7 naturally I would guess it will have some hidden warmth so I would deffo do with something violet/ash based so yeah you could try 12/61 maybe or could try the 12/1 but when I have used this shade in the past I have still found it to be fairly warm but you say she already has warm hilights so she may want them to be a tad warm. You could also try 12/11, best to do some test cuttings if possible, hope that helps :) x

Hi,
Remember that tint won't lift tint, so if your client already has a darker colour on her hair 12/0 series won't touch it, you will need something stronger, I.e bleach, majimeche or the colour graphics range

Cupcakes x

Hi, high lift tints do throw out alot of warmth but the 12 series do lift 4 to 5 levels and the 12/0 series do also lift tint generally over darker bases only 3-4 levels so the tint doesn't lift tint rule does not apply to high lift tints don't forget high lift tints and bleach are in a similar category go with the 12/89 I find 12/1 kicks alot of warmth up or bleach and tone and do level 3 if you can as level 2 doesn't cover colour correction etc

hi just because your friend has seen them mix up and seen them use tubes doesnt mean it not bleach, the bleach i use is a cream bleach and comes in a tube, sorry to confuse things , also some salons do not tell their clients when bleach is being used as it scares some peolpe just saying the word lol x
