At the end of august i went to get my hollywood wax, i have been getting it done since march 2011 so for a long time so it isnt so painful anymore and i know what to expect.

Well my lady who i normally go to was away so my friend recommended her friend who does waxing at home. So i went to her for my hollywood wax and it was soooo painful i thought i might cry. After she did it i couldn't walk, it was so sore i couldn't use the lady's room and in the evening it was bruised and bleeding under the skin.

Can someone tell me what she could have done wrong to cause this? Is it the wax she used didnt agree with my skin or was it her technique? It felt as though she kept expecting to taunt the skin, as she wasn't?

Unfortunately any number of things:

What kind of wax does your usual lady use? Strip or non-strip? Non strip is ALWAYS less painful on these sensitive areas.

She may have used no oil under the wax.

She might not have stretched and supported the skin well which could cause bruising or tearing of the skin.

If using strip wax she may have gone over the area more than needed thus breaking/tearing skin.

She may well have put too much pressure on, some areas are more easily bruised with too much pressure.

I hope you feel better soon. I would call her or contact her in some way to explain what has happened. She needs to know. If it is down t her technique (which is likely) she should be told so that she can train or re-train and not put anyone else through this.

In the mean time if the skin is broken be careful to avoid any scented washes/creams. Get some savlon and arnica no it and avoid the shower water being too hot.

My normal lady uses warm wax with strips. I believe it was her technique as she was pulling the hair the complete opposite way to what i lady normally does x

Hi, did you check she was qualified to carry out Hollywood waxing? I've noticed more and more therapists offering this service but who haven't done the necessary training.

Unfortunately, more and more people aren't being qualified in this type of waxing so don't know how t do it ore toy, as the hair down there grows in different ways etc.... Ring her up and let her know, after all wouldn't you want to know if you did a treatment and your client was unhappy?

ooh that sounds awful, some savlon cream might soothe it, and I know its a bit old fashioned but a bit of salt in your bath water will promote healing.

It's difficult to say where she went wrong without a detailed breakdown of how she performed the service, but areas I would be looking at are:

the type of wax she used (hot wax is best, strip wax is not recommended)
the temperature of the wax
did she apply pre epilation oil?
her stretching techniques
Did she go over the same area too many times with strip wax?
Was the hair an appropriate length? Did she trim any longer hairs?
Did she check for contraindications ie are you on any medication eg roaccutaine?

You say you are bruised (amongst other things) which suggests to me that her removal technique is not good, or the hair was too long, or the wax was applied too thickly. At the end of the day you could sit for hours and pick this to bits trying to find out what went wrong but its not going to make your poor lady bits any better!! Dont go back to her, stick with the lady you usually see if you are happy with her, but if you need to see a new therapist in future I would check her qualifications and ask her what methods she uses. If you explain you are a therapist yourself and have had a bad experience I'm sure she would give you some details, I know I would be happy to give details of my procedure in these circumstances
