I received my cosmetology license in early march, and right now Iam working a part time job. Although I do do hair on the side on my free time for extra cash, but I really wan to branch out now and work at a salon. But it's been difficult for me to start off, I'll find jobs but they are only commission based and I don't have a big enough clientele to gain from a commission based job. I've considered in applying in supercuts or something but I've heard that doesn't look good on a resume for a future employer for ex if I would later on want to work on the strip, what should I do? How did you start off your cosmetologist career? :)

Contact the owner , do the interview, talk to them about your expectations, just because it says commission, doesn't mean you won't make money. If they have a built in clientele you will have work. A lot of owners will give you a trial time at a certain wage also. Get yourself out there and talk with them:) happy hunting .

Not sure what the employment laws are over your end of the world but here, even if you employ someone commission based, you still have to pay minimum wage. Unless they are self employed and in that case the rent space/chair from you at a set price each week and thats it! Earning a % of your takings here is only allowed if they are higher than minimum wage for the hours worked.
