Grrrrrr

I have just this very minute had a call from a lady who lived 15 miles away from me wanting L&P nails this is the second one, it's so frustrating, I offered for her to come to me but it was to far...lol....

Please nail god send em to me from a 5 mile radius of my postcode please.... :D

Can you not add a surcharge for those who live further away? I would think this would be a reasonable thing to do. But I have never worked mobile.

Yep, I am thinking about a mileage charge say 30 per mile but then there is my time ....as this is a good 20 minutes each way .

If I could afford to dump the job I could do a day in the area but I cant yet god this kills me...

Hi Hun
I always charge extra if it is out of my way......i do a couple of clients in between Harrogate and Leeds and when they first called i was like definately not no way....then thought hey why lose business just cos it's that little bit further so i told them that there would be a surcharge as it was out of my district which they are more than happy to pay

another thing is if you do travel to her the first time then she may become a really good regular client...ask her if she has friends who would like theirs done at the same time and also do a leaflet drop round her street...it would be worth the travel for a full days work of good regular clients :)

I'm travelling to Carlisle (70 miles) at the weekend to do massage, beauty treatments and possibly nails. It's my sisters house and she is gathering a few friends together.

I've been mobile for 11 years and if I have to travel outside my area (10 miles) I add £5.00 to the cost. I also have this printed on my leaflets and also have a minimum charge of £15.00. (I'm not travelling 10 minutes for an eyebrow wax)
If you explain why you have to have a minimum charge or extra charge for clients out of the area they understand.
Rather than refusing a client ask them to pay an extra charge or get together with a friend.

Hi Louise!!
I'm not mobile, but I think you got the best advice here from everyone.
You should be charging extra the further you travel.
Marie also said something good, these clients that live far away should try to get together with some other people, so that it'll really be worth your time.

Hi Diya, you are right on there, I think have loads of good advice..

My worry is there are thousands of females in my 5 mile radius and I don't want to be travelling if in 2 weeks or more time there is no need to...

I dont want to be dropping clients as business is good so close to home. So my dilema is treat all cases as income temporarily or hang fire and see what comes in the door...I dont want to be letting clients go if business starts booming in my area when all the Yellow Pages are finally out...does that make sence

I'd just be thankful that you are getting clients, if you do start getting more clients in your area obviously the ones furtherest away will have to start travelling to you or you could book them in when you are quiet.

I would never refuse, use it to your advantage, book them in when quiet or persuade them to have a couple of friends also in the same area.

Having the same dilemma myself...after a hard days work...and 60 miles travel to get there and back...got home..grabed my bag and out the other side of Leicester to do a set of nails for £25.

I can't pick and choose (at the moment) as I dont have a big enough customer base....but I thought a surcharge of £2.50 for out of 5 mile radius could be incorporated into my costs....if i'm busy i mention that one....if i'm not i dont!!!

i agree with amber, i always put a £2.50 charge on people that live further away, they obviously want you as they would of called someone nearer to them.

Pen xx

Minkus, whether you are busy or not, charge them. If yu ordered a taxi to go further than your usual £5.00 fare would you expect him to charge you more?

When my kids were little and if someone wanted a nightime appt I used to tell them if they didn't mind paying a bit extra for a babysitter I would, nobody ever said no.

When I was mobile anyone outside of a 10 mile radius got charged an extra £5, my time, my petrol! Charge more if it's a longer journey!

Better being busy Louise, take all the clients you can, but make sure you charge 'em! ;)
