In a day, just wondering as I’ve only just started my business although I’ve been qualified over a year. I’ve done a few friends, I have a fb page which I’m busy adding stuff all the time. But I’m not getting any interest, in doing manicures, pedicures and gel nails. I’m not sure if my prices are too high but I’ve based them on local competition and I’m slightly cheaper?

Have you tried advertising on local Facebook groups in your area? Or selling pages? I’ve found that good for gaining new clients x

Yes I tried that, the two enquiries I had on my local group wanted acrylic, I’ve just trained in that but I’m rubbish at it and really slow so I’m not offering it.x

My business differs from most, in that I do nails as a hobby/therapy. I have four children and am finishing my 15th year homeschooling. My husband provides for the family, but I needed a part-time outlet. I have been in business for 18 months.
I work M-W-F. My first client usually starts at 10 or 11 a.m. and I book every two hours and usually only work on clients 8 hours a day. This allows me time to complete a 60-75 minute pedicure (based on the condition of clients' feet), book next appointment and take payment, do a full 15 minute clean & disinfect of room, set up for next client and have a short bathroom break.
I am 44 years old and have no desire to 'rush' my services, but I am blessed that I do this for extra income only....not to support my family.
Working at this pace, I perform about four services a day. I have done as many as six if some are double services (hands & feet) and I just wait to clean both stations at the end.
I have a private room in a hair salon and my clientele is older (my age and up) and appreciates my more laid back, slower services. They do not like feeling rushed, which can happen at busier salons. With that being said, I don't get many clients who are limited on time because I choose not to work at a break-neck speed.....it causes me anxiety.
The bottom line is, how many clients you see a day will definitely depend upon a few elements:
your own personal speed/efficiency,
the hours that you are willing to work each day,
the type of services that you perform (30 minute enamel polish change vs a 2.5 hour full set with detailed nail art),
the type of clientele that you have (busy working moms who need a 30 minute gel polish change on their lunch break
or retirees who enjoy a long relaxing pedicure and have the time to spare),
and your own personal financial requirements.
I hope that this information helps and I wish you success in your new business.

I’d say start doing the acrylic!
Let them know your slow etc and charge for the cost of products
Practice makes perfect and also give you more confidence! You have to start somewhere even if you started at £10 you’ll have loads who will come and then you might keep some clients and word of mouth! X

I know this would help, I just don’t enjoy doing them. I love doing gel nails. I also have three children and another job so I only have a few short time slots where I would be able to fit clients in. It takes a minimum of 2 hours to do a full set, whereas I can do gels in an hour x

I was so like you. I hated doing them mostly because I was never happy with the results. I switched to CND recently and trained with them and now I am really getting into them. I would say I am still on the slow side. Including Nail art / Design you are looking at 2 hours but I get hardly any lifting now and I am more and more pleased with every set. Practise and good training really is the key x

Have you thought about using duel forms for acrylic or offering acrylic dipping, or perhaps polygels? That would put you bang up to date and make your life easier as well.

Yeah I did actually, what I really need is time to practice but I just don’t have it. I’m really pushing the luxury mani/pedi, skin treatments and gel nails now. I think the extensions and overlays is something I will add on when my baby is older. I just don’t have the time to add on so many services when I have limited availability at the moment x
