I agree: don't undercut your prices just to get people in the door.

Firstly, you undersell yourself and your talent by doing this.
Secondly, you'll find your customers won't like it when you start to raise your prices & they will stop coming.
Thirdly, you'll attract a certain type of customer. With cheap prices you will attract the cheap customers who want stuff for free, and they will NOT be the core of your business or the key to success. Cheap customers usually don't tend to be return clientele b/c they can't afford the luxury of being pampered. It is the returning clientele that you want to aim for. They are the key to success. :)

Thanks for your opinions, rwally helpful. I want to be a really good tec with good customers. i understand what your saying jollicatellas, i think i have already started attracting the wrong sort of people (well wrong for me anyway!).
my latest new client informed me that last summer she went to a salon that has a bad rep and i think uses mma.the guy who did her friends pulled off lots of loose skin which made them bleed and verry sore!
she was very pleased with that salon as her nails stayed on for a whole 7 weeks and took ages to take off!!
i did hers 2 weeks ago and she said she would phone me to have them redone no appointment booked in as yet although i have heard from her but she said she wanted to wait longer ? i think she came to me because of price.

i only qualified in the spring and didnt feel right charging too much so i charged what i thought the nail were worth at the time £20.00. Now im begining to think that they only come to me because im so much cheaper than others. the nearest and only salon in my town charges £35 for a NNO and £42 for a french full set. Some of my clients and alot of the locals who ive spoken to tell me they used to go their but when they put their prices up to what they are now they couldnt afford to stay with them. i know a couple switched to another tec who charges 30. how do i find the right price and the right clients for me?

the pricing seems to be a real issue for me at the mo, and i need to sort it out before i do my leaflet drop.
