How often should I wear makeup? like how often should I take a break from it?

What's most important is how you remove your make up and the care you put into your skin.

I see customers who wear make up every day and they have fabulous skin because they care for it properly.

On the other hand I have quite a few customers who never wear it and have terrible skin because they won't look after it or use the right products to suit their skin.

It is phenomenal the difference a basic regular skin care routine can make

Go see a good facialist who will give you honest feedback on your skin and advice a routine that suits your price range

Re taking a break - personally I try to go make-up free once a week and use that day to give myself little mini facials at home

Loveleelady has given you perfect advice ... I am a skin therapist and it is all about taking care of your skin in the first place.... Make up can help protect more than you think .. Mineral make up is the best option .. Vitage, Coffeeberry, Jane Iredale, Susan Postnick are the leaders in this area ...

Wear makeup as often or as little as you like my darling! If you make sure you remove your makeup thoroughly and clean your skin every night, makeup is unlikely to damage your skin. Hope this helps x

As often as you like, but agree with the other posts that ideally a good quality mineral make up, and good skincare - not wipes - for removal etc.

Squidernetball, surely a wipe is better than nothing?
I always think about just lukewarm water, but I doubt that would take my make up off?

To be honest if you're wearing something super pure like Jane Iredale you're better sleeping in it than using a wipe. If you took a moist cloth and sealed it in a bag, it would start to go mouldy and smell. Wipes don't. Now you have to think what's in them to keep them moist and stop them smelling. You don't need that on your skin.

Can I ask why only a choice of water or wipes? If you have major allergies, Jane Iredale do a make up removal mitt that takes all make up of with warm water, so maybe an option!

In all honesty I'm lazy!!
I either rinse my face when I brush my teeth, or wipe over in bed.

I never thought about the mouldy thing!

I might look into Jane Iredale. Thank

For all those who like " wipes " try this test : When you're wearing full make up remove using wipes. Then cleanse your face with a creamy facial cleanser and wipe away with damp cotton wool pads. You will be amazed how much make up will be on the cotton wool. Wipes are not a great way to take off make up but are ok for correcting smudges.

A cheap, quick and easy wipe-free alternative is an oil cleanse. I was recommended this by a friend and was a bit skeptical but I can honestly say that for me (combination to dry (depending on hormones) sensitive skin) it has been amazing. It removes makeup faster and easier than most cleansers ive ever used - even removes waterproof mascara and doesnt sting, tingle or make things feel tight / raw.

You can use any oil (baby oil, olive oil etc) but a natural non-comedogenic one will work best for long term use (I.e. grapeseed, jojoba, peach kernal etc) and you can add in essential oils or use a pre-blended aromatherapy oil if you wanna get fancy. The 'best' way is to rub the oil into damp skin with circular motions and then remove with damp cotton pads or a flannel.

However my lazy / DIY wipe way also works: Apply a little oil to damp cotton pads and rub all over face, you may need two or three sets for a full face. Use a final set of cotton pads to remove excess oil - especially from the eyelashes as it can make things a little blurry until you have blinked it away. Done. Toning and moisturising are still beneficial but if you really want to just be lazy you can leave it without worry about whatever chemicals may have been smeared all over your face! I find I get a much deeper / better cleanse this way than using wipes too - no accidental panda eyes in the morning!

Although rubbing oil onto your face sounds like it will give you spots the extra oil helps to break down sebum as it is a similar consistency (more true with oils that mimic our natural sebum like jojoba) and often an overproduction of oil on the face is often due to the skin being dry and the body over-compensating - which this also addresses!
