Hello, I am new here and appreciate you taking the time to read this. I have a hard time when retouching blondes. Matching there previous highlight color. I always go to bright. People come in with a golden blonde and leave with a light almost white blonde. I know I am leaving it on to long. But I don’t know when going for a golden blonde when the foil is ready?

Also do you always use bleach when retouching blondes or do you use color on the roots?

There’s no single rule about how long to leave bleach processing as it depends on the individual head of hair. If you’re regularly leaving it on too long, then you need to keep checking it for lift more frequently. If it’s still too light after bleaching, you just need to apply a gold based toner. However, it’s quite normal to tone hair after bleaching as bleach exposes underlying pigment tones which usually need to be neutralised.
