I have a client who moved to my area she came in with a note from her previous hairdressers saying what she did a full head foils 10vol then toned with wella koleston 10/8, as I am unfamiliar with wella how do I mix it? Do I apply it to towel dried hair? Before or after conditioning?

Before conditioning, an towel dried hair.
With the lowest developer you can for up to 20 mins.
Ideally it should be colour touch for toning, but best to stick to what she's been having for now.

On principle, I NEVER use anyone else’s colour suggestions but after a thorough consultation, I make my own colour cocktail mix. If it’s a line you’re unfamiliar with and it doesn’t work as expected, the client will blame you.

Very good point! I've only ever had one client come with a card, and that was definitely not her colour written on the card. I usually don't use 10/8 as a toner (being a wella user) unless it's a clean base 10, it can go khaki if you're not careful, especially if theres any yellow left in the hair.

I did say to her I don't normally use other colours and prefer to use my own but she was adamant as she had only ever been to this hairdresser before moving and was very nervous about doing anything different to what she's always had and wants to stick with what she normally gets, I've been getting mixed advice saying that 10/8 is a great toner and other saying it can go green since it's more bluish than violet, her natural base is around a 7 and lifts very light with a low vol peroxide and bleach so there isn't alot of yellow in it at all.

If you're happy to do it, then do it. If it does go khaki, then I take it you know you can just remove excess tone with a deep cleansing shampoo and re tone with a pale violet toner.
This will neutralise the underlying gold/yellow, meaning the blue will be left behind to reflect.
