The girl used one of these things:

To scrape all of my nail before she did it, it was a bit painful but I'd never had my nails done before so I just assumed it was normal... I've been reading about it since and all the youtube tutorials and things I've read have had no mention of doing that. So now I'm a bit worried that my nails are going to be rubbish underneath when the shellac comes off... so.. is it normal for the Salon Girl to be doing that? Will my nails be OK?

Hello!

That is a 'pushy', basically the nail plate can be covered with cuticle, which, if not removed, would cause the Shellac to not properly adhere to the nail nail plate.

By using this tool and other products it removes it and therefore gives the therapist a 'blank canvas' if you like.

However, it shouldn't hurt! Did she pop anything onto you nails before using the tool? It should have been a gel/creamy products etc???

Also if in the future anything hurts whilst having you nails done please tell the therapist/tech as they may be heavy handed and until someone tells them then they won't know

Hiya,

Yes we do use 1 of those prior to the shellac application.

We use it to do a dry OR wet pep to remove the cuticle on the nail plate so the nail is a good clean canvas for the shellac to bond to otherwise there maybe lifting/chopping. However there are unfortunately a few techs who don't use them or use them too aggressively and can cause some discomfort to the client.

But i don't think you have anything to worry about, when the shellac is removed you Will see your nails are perfectly fine and healthy :) xx

My therapist who does my nails uses this to scrape the Shellac off after soaking which is painful.

Well she shouldn't be .. CND advise to use only a wooden cuticle stick to remove any excess flakes of Shellac when removing because a wooden cuticle stick is softer for this job.

The metal 'pushey' is for removing cuticle not product and should be used gently but firmly.

I know I use a orange stick when I remove shellac. I also know that they were trained by the same person who trained me.
