Hi All!!!

I am so hating my job right now. I have to do pedicures and absolutely HATE them!

I had this older woman come in today. She was very nice, but, she begins to tell me she is going to be the easiest pedi ever because she can't stand to have to have bottom of her feet touched. No problem I thought.

Yeah, well, I start her pedi and and asked her if she wanted me to just clean her nails and polish her toes. (YAHOO....the quick way out of this pedicure) She says that would be great. Okay....it took me one hour to clean the cuticle/skin off the toes. NO JOKE. The whole time I'm praying that I don't start to dry heave in front of her. Once I get the skin down far enough to actually paint the toe, she points out her heels and how she uses this cream that the doctor recommended for dry cracked heels. OMG!!!!

Picture all the dead skin you have EVER took off of pedicure clients and imagine sticking the bits and pieces of the clumps of skin all around the heels of this woman. This is what I was dealing with. :Scared:

U know, I really feel bad for feeling like this, but I just hate pedicures! I swear...I get the nastiest feet! This pedicure literally made my tummy churn. I just don't have the stomach for this.

Of course, I did the best I could, but sheesh! I feel like a horrible person!

Does anyone else ever feel like this? Should I tell my manger I really need to give pedi's up or should I just suck it up? I am at the point if I see a pedi on my book, I dread that hour. Sorry this is soooo long, but needed to vent! Thank so much!!!!

Nancy

Don't feel bad. I don't do feet at all! I am not even comfortable with someone touching my feet! Different strokes for different folks! If you're uneasy about it then you need to speak out.

I know how you feel...I love doing feet but some days are just like that. I got this huge guy the other day who barely fit in the chair!!! He took his shoes off and low and behold his toes were black!!! YUK. He had more dead skin that your gal. I asked if he'd seen a DR. and what was up with the black toes. He had written permission for the feet to be pedicured from the DR. They were just dying from diabetes. I thought I was gonna hurl. I swallowed and did the best I could. The other techs were glad I was the one who got him. I felt like I didn't do as good as I should've because I just couldn't .......ya know, I just couldn't. Chris:eek:

I had a client who wouldn't let me clip her toenails cause it hurt but when I filed them she tried to get me to clip them....? and she brought her minature poodle in with her and he was licking her feet! gag me!

Good thing we have thos forum....we all understand what we all go through!

I love it when my dog licks my toes!!! It makes me giggle! :green: But I wouldn't want that dog spit in the pedi chair.....

I LOVE doing pedicures. And the worse they are, the more I love them. I love the fact that once you are done, and they look 100% better, the client is soooooo extremely happy. I have actually had clients cry after a pedicure because they think their feet look and feel incredible. I find it a truly satisfying service to do.

I love them too. Making it through a yucky one is really an act of love. The Hindus believe that rubbing anothers feet clears you of bad Karma. I have to think of that when I get a client that is less than desireable.

I really don't mind doing pedicures, however having said that I have to aslo say that I have never really come across any "nasty" feet.

I know it hard, if you don't like them, you just don't like them and there will rarely be very little to change your mind. But this is what you sihned up for as a nail tech or as a beauty therapist. I guess you'll just have to get on with it, hun. All the best xx

I really feel for you hun as feet aren't my favourite things!

But thanks for making me nearly bring back my jaffa cakes with your extremely descriptive pedi method. LOL

Oh no! i have just plucked up the courage to do a pedicure course! feelin a bit nervous about what I will have to deal with!! I shall be brave tho! xx

Poor you, luckily i have never come across a client with proper minging feet, but i am sure the day will come.

I can't give you any advise really, but your thread has made me laugh x

Thanks everybody for your posts! Yeah, sometimes this job really tests me!

In truth, I don't ALWAYS hate them. Just the yucky ones. When I don't feel like messing with them. I'm sure you know all about that.

I feel mostly like huberella....there are days when I love mediocre "nasty" feet because when I'm done, the simply look fabulous.

I guess yesterday was just a bad foot day! Thanks so much for listening to me whine. You all made me feel so much better! Thanks!!!! I just love this site!!!

I do think feet is one of those things you either lover or hate. Personally I love doing them and the more "gunk" the better. Also good satisfaction when finished. If somebody asked me to do anything to do with eyes, I would run a mile! I wanted to do eyelash tinting/perming course but realised that just looking closely in someone's eyes make me feel a bit squiffy so no way could I touch them. So I understand how it must feel for someone who doesn't like feet.

I don't mind feet as long as they are clean !

I have only had a couple of yucky feet & then i start to feel i bit ill, some of them look like there half foot/ half trotter thats when i wish pedicures had never been invented  ! If they are really bad i leave them in footspa for at least 5 mins first.

i know how you feel. my first lot of pedi's was at a charity thing. my friend, who loves feet, got all the good ones. i got all the bad ones. the very bad ones. i was gipping all day! i tried to hurry up on one woman and she said "you haven't done my cuticles!". trust the woman with the worse feet in history to know what cuticles were!!!!! i told her they were fine as they were HAHA.

I dont mind feet at all, however I have had some badduns too,one day I had a lady come in with feet so dry that it was like she had been walking in a desert for twenty years with no shoes on.She had a self tan on and it was caked into her twenty year old overgrown cuticles that grew 3/4 of the way down her toenail. No kidding it was terrible. She had an hour long pedi and it took me nearly the entire time to just to do the hard skin romoval and cuticles alone.Thats with no massage, polish or anything.I felt really rushed and to be honest I can honestly say that usually I feel happy when my client leaves the salon with a totally different pair of feet than they walk in with. This time though I felt like I could have spent another 2 hours on her at least just to give her the treatment that Im used to doing.

Don't really like doing pedis, but do them cos it makes me happy when the client goes away happy. I have one lady and her feet aren't one bit nice - but she is such a lovely person that I would never turn her away just cos her feet want to make me chuck - if you know what I mean:lol: hope you feel better about them soon xxx

i think you get used to them. i don't gip as much as i used to! then again, thinking about it, i've never seen toenails like the ones at the charity thing since! they were so bad i seriously nearly sent home for my dog claw clippers! i considered (for about 5 seconds!) throwing out all my pointy shoes! i tried to trim them but the whole nail nearly fell off!!!! can you imagine! it was my first ever pedi! ugh.

since then i've learned a wise excuse. if i see someone with feet that bad i tell them they need proper medical care and to see a chiropodist! actually, i don't really see it as an "excuse" because i'm hardly qualified to deal with toenails that are falling off.

just give them a huge spray with a minty sanitizing spray and think of Blackpool rock!!

Ok all the nasty stories of the peds make me want to hurl....I had a client in school that I did ...when it came time to push her cuticles back with my orange wood stick half of it dissapeared .....and this green stuff came out ! I dropped her foot like a hot potato and ran to the bathroom ! my instructor followed me and as I was praying to the porcelain god ...she said " what's wrong? " I told her and she had to go talk to the client......now when I do pedicures.....I charge an arm and a leg! I get little request for them ...but when I do , do them at leased I'm getting some bucks!!!:)
