I am totally new to all of this so please forgive me as I don't know what im talking about!

What good brands of gel can you buy without having to have attended their training course first? Or are all the best brands of gel not available to buy unless you do their courses?

Thanks for your help xxx

Hi,

Yes you do need to train to use professional gel.

Well, I am not sure what you mean exactly, you want to start off with gel without doing a course?

If so you, as already been stated, need to train and do a course.

Welcome to Salon Geek

If you need any help finding your way around, please ask one of the Geek Guides for assistance in My Forum.

The link below will give you lots of information about gels and gel systems:

http://www.salongeek.com/general-articles/35483-choosing-correct-gel.html

In the meantime, it is both advisible and sensible to receive the correct professional training when using any nail enhancement system, so may I suggest that you research training courses to begin with.

You will find many recommendations on this site, as well as social groups for the majority of popular gel systems.

Hope that helps in the meantime.

Forgot to say that without having completed the correct professional training, you'll find that you will be unable to purchase the majority of professional products.

Well I have seen courses which im thinking of going on either with capital or Training Rocks. They are obviously cheaper than anything like CND but still a qualification and wondering if there are still good Gels I can purchase after going on these courses?

I am reluctant to spend hundreds on more expensive courses like CND as I doubt i'll be earning the money back through doing nails as I work full -time outside of the beauty industry. For the moment its just something i want to learn and to practise for a while but if i can't get good quality gel after going on one of these courses, theres no point me doing them at all if the end result wont be good.

Hope that makes sence!

Thanks

No not unless you train with them, don't waste money on cheap courses you get what you pay for. Why do you think the cnd rout isn't cheap? And unlike a cheap course where u have to buy products on top cnd have the product included.

Hi, u remind me very much of myself as i was in ur shoes about 5 months ago, i was looking at cheaper courses as i was worried about paying so much out and didnt see what the difference would be nad thought the courses would be just as good, i was rather naive when i was thinking about the training and what was involved. There is sooooo much involved with nails and u need to learn as much as u can.

Also the more expensive products are a lot easier and nicer to work with and give u an amazingly high quality finish in comparision to ur cheaper products again u get what u pay for!!

U need to bear in mind is you get what u pay for when it comes training, i can guarantee u will not feel like u have learnt enough and/or u wont feel confident enough doing nails, so what ends up happening u pay £200-300 for a cheap course then realise u've not learnt enough then end up having to pay again for another course which is more expensive with a really good company like CND, Nail Harmony, NSI, Young Nails etc and u've ended up paying out more when it would have been easier to just pay for the more expensive training?! u cant expect to get the best possible start paying a couple of hundred pound for a 2 day course, unfortunately too many people think they can get minimal training and being amazing at nails, but it doesnt work like that within this industry u are constantly having to learn new techniques trends etc. Im not having a go as i was one of those people luckily this site opened my eyes sooooo much!!

I like you work full time in 9-5 mon - Fri (in accounts of all things) i hate the job but i did it as it was an easy and safe option of making money, but im 25 and i want to do something i love and its nails and i have to invest in my future in order to be the best i can be.

But aswell as working fulltime, Im also doing a course through work for my ICM credit management diploma which is a 2 year course, im also doing my L&P training with Nail Harmony (which i am loving), I'm also in the process of setting up my mobile nail business i.e registered self employed, creating my website , advertising myself everything to do with my business im doing myself and i'm in the middle of decorating my house and on top of that i am looking at working part time in my spare evenings for my nails to practice.

I'm not bragging im just trying to show u if u really want to do something u can. I would really think very carefully about how serious you are about wanting to do nails hun. hope this helps xx

BTW welcome to salon geek!! xx
