Apologies that this isn't a professional post but a consumer query. I promise promise promise I'm not a hairmesser but I've just seen this photo on Facebook and I love it. It was posted by Roo bags and the comments suggest they are extensions. I would want this as a dye not extensions.

If I took this picture into a hairdressers would they laugh their heads off at me? Is this something that is possible for someone with mid length mousy brown hair? What is this effect called? Anyone have a salon near me? (GU34). Sorry for desperate sounding post ...

Yes it's possible. You need to ask for a dip dye or Ombre.

You would need to select a good Salon & colourist and expect to pay a premium for this type of service.

Your hair will need to be lightened on the ends otherwise it won't be very vibrant. Also, the purply colour will fade quite quickly and need to be refreshed maybe weekly depending on the porosity of your hair and how often you wash it with a non sodium shampoo.
