Hi all.

I'm a hairdresser and nail enthusiast- that is I enjoy doing my own nails and nail art. I would love to get gel polish or a gel overlay (NO tips please!) to try and get out of a terrible habit i have- which is peeling off my polish! I find that when I do nail art (I use normal Essie and other brand polishes), I tend to use a couple of top coats- meaning the polish, when I pick at it, peels off in one very satisfying sheet!

I'm a former biter so I guess it's not unusual that I have a nail habit- but I can see that it's damaging the surface of my nail so I want to break the habit.

I've had shellac before and guess what? I peeled it off! What's the best solution to break this habit? I don't want any nail extensions per se- I like my natural shape and length. Gel overlay? As in hard gel? Any tips/advice would be appreciated :)

You need self control and a new habit to take over the picking and peeling before anything else. Maybe try to retrain your brain to where instead of picking and peeling, you're rubbing in cuticle oil instead. Putting anything with a stronger bond than nail polish or Shellac on your nails as you are now might not be a good idea in case you get that urge to peel.

I'm a picker and peeler. I pick the skin around my nails and shellac lasts 3 days tops on me. I have just tried gel ll and put on a dark colour. It looked so good that every time I went to pick, I would stop myself. I had also invested quite a bit of money so really wanted to see if it actually lasted.

I am now on my third lot of gel ll nails. The skin around my fingers has healed and my nails look the best they ever have. I have picked and nibbled for years. Years of my husband and daughters telling me to stop picking and me trying to do it sneakily. I now think they look great.

Maybe a dark colour but for me it was the financial outlay too!
