I don't really know how best to describe it.

I've always had patches of discoloured skin on my elbows, knuckles, arm pits and knees but now it has spread and covers the tops of my feet, ankles, bottom of my legs and all my arms as well.

It starts off as like freckly spots? I get more and more of them until eventually the area has none of my original skin colour left?

My arms are really, really patchy.

It makes it look like I'm dirty and unclean but I shower and scrub it every day. I use an exfoliating body scrub to try and even it out which doesn't work.

I've seen the DR who said it's just discoloration but it really gets me down.

Can any of you skin geeks recommend any peels / treatments / scrubs etc. that could possibly help with this at all?

I've attached a really bad pic of my arm to try and highlight an area of the discoloration and how dark it is compared to my skin / white clothes etc.

Don't feel you have to answer this, but are you pregnant?

I have this slightlytoo! My arm, round my eye and it's now spreading from my eye down my face looks a bit like dodgy make up sometimes lol. And I'm not pregnant :) xx

Pregnancy can cause hyperpigmentation, so that's why I asked.

Firstly, make sure you are keeping your skin well-protected from the sun at all times, and secondly, consider booking a consultation with a beauty therapist who will be able to look at it more thoroughly.

Hth.

I was going to say sun! My sister gets it on her head when she is on holiday she hates it! X

I used to get this, it was the pill Yasmin causing it. Now I'm of it it gone x

Not on any hormonal pills like Yasmin for anything.
99.9999% sure I'm not pregnant [Have issues with fertility].

Thanks for the replies - and it makes me feel better to see I'm not the only one who has it!

I am quite lax with sun protection so I will definitely step up the regime there! Will book in with a B.T asap for a consult see if they can help.

Most people don't seem to mind / notice it but a few people have commented on it which makes me feel really rubbish!

Ask for a dermatology referal from your gp.

I have this too! have youImageUploadedBySalonGeek1407628490.878536.jpg found out what it was everyone said mine looks like bad fake tan!! haha

it does look like hyperpigmentation and yes there are certain advanced treatments that can help reduce this, such as peels and certain laser treatments, however it is best to speak to your local advanced treatment Clinic (Laser clinic or Skin Clinic) most of them do offer free consultations and they can have a look and give you advice on the best treatments, or alternatively try and get referred by your GP to see a Dermatologist
Also if you do have treatment of some kind staying out of the sun and a good SPF is a must.
